I'm learning and am getting reminded all the time how you never know how any of the people you meet in your life will affect you. Never ever underestimate any interaction. I met Jim at the Houston Gixxers Christmas party and never could have thought the influence he would wind up having over my life. He helped me load my bike for my last track day, I thought that was a big deal. I wish it was only that but now it is what it is. It's an honor to help him, I'm glad that others care as well. He deserves it. He drove me nuts with his high strung energy, but I always knew it came from the heart.

Depending on his status, someone put me in touch with him. I can share a lot with him from experience. I'm currently in the hospital myself and won't be out until mid-late February. But once I'm out, I'll visit him at Herman or TIRR. I think I'll end up there about the same time myself for some recovery rehab from my surgeries. Share my website with him www.bdmpastx.com and you can call me anytime at 281-851-5818

Jim really appreciates the visits and is better now to be able to receive people. Jones tower, room 636 (6th floor), 9am-9pm.

Saw him last night and his breathing is better, but he is still needing to let his banged up chest heal to help him with this. He can talk much better now though, and so if you've been waiting to see him, he is better now and continues to get better each day! They are already talking about when to move him to rehab even! (I'm not sure when though...will update!)

update from Melanie of Houston Gixxers: Jim update!! !!!! Just got back from a long visit & when I arrived he was SITTING UP!! He said ' Mel - it HURT!!' But he looks great!! Was able to breathe better and eat a entire bowl of apple sauce & a cup of choc pudding very easily. He was very happy!! They will do surgery on his hand tomorrow then he will be moved to the rehabilitation center - he says "I AM READY!" His spirits were very high - energy up - and ALL SMILES!! He says he has never felt so blessed in his life as he does now from all the support & love his motorcycle family has shown. <3 They put him back into bed just before I left - he had a lot of pressure in his shoulders so it was nice to lay back down. Got him all situated & he tells me ' I'm excited for the new energy my lunch gave me and ready for dinner in the upright position !"

Awesome news. He's going to need someone at home with him until he's able to get by himself. I'm sure TIRR will send him home after learning how to cath and do a number 2. At least until his other injuries heal. Then the real rehab starts. I'd offer my house to him but I'm not home. It has a roll in shower and wide doors and halls. More than likely, he won't be able to get into his bathroom without replacing the door. Heck there may be a lot of places he can't get into at his house. He's going to need a lot of support and help. And with him not having any family, it's going to be real hard. I hope someone can step up for him and help him through this tough time.

His home will need modifications, I'm confused about the time frame he'll be at TIRR. I thought that he would be in for months and we'd get the time to renovate if wanted, or sell the house for a one story.

He has lived alone, we'll need to figure that one out. It will get figured out. We'll have to get him to play off some stuff like he can't learn it, about what you mentioned, to give us more time, LOL.

They typically will only keep him there to teach some basics for bowel an bladder then send him home to heal. So his back needs time to fuse if he broke vertebrae as well as his arm. He'll need full use of it to get his body in a wheelchair, in bed, in a car etc. At that time, he'll go through wheelchair clinic to see what he wants in his chair. I have 2 spare chairs he can use in the meantime.

Update: Jim had a set back last night and has been moved back to STICU. He's not critical, but has clots that developed that have moved to his lungs. The visitation is back to 6am-9pm, 2 at a time. Call ahead of time to see if he is available (713) 704-3249 (admissions number, all I can find right now).

Luckily Rodrigo had stayed overnight, just for the simple intentions of companionship but also to learn more about after care, when Jim was still in Jones 636. It was fortunate Rodrigo was there to help him through this crisis until they moved him to STICU. This is a reminder that we need to be vigilant over his care. If you are there, ask them questions. Apparently he had an order about fluids, and it wasn't conveyed to any of us..including Jim.. and as he drank water after water (which I would have thought would be better to prevent this problem), turns out he was supposed to have a powder mixed in. I was so worried about bed sores but didn't even consider this. :-(

Poor guy. From the sound of it the only family he has is his motorcycle family. You guys are good people for getting him through this and it just goes to show that there is all kinds of family out there. Hearing his experience makes me appreciate my life, my family, and my friends even more. Hang in there Jim!

there is no thread on the accident and i'm sure they don't want to get to
specific.

If Jim wants to tell us what happened, i'm sure he will in good time.

Update...from me! Just got home from visiting Jim. He's doing REALLY good. After his sleepiness wore off, he was able to speak better (has had trouble with breathing and talking thing). He will be moved back to a normal room soon, he will contact Carmen when this happens, who will then post on Houston Gixxers. And then you'll get ANOTHER update from me!

Biggest news that boosted him...He was happy to hear that his breathing difficulty is not so bad, his doc is happy and wishes all of her patients could breathe like he is. And...that the muscles he thought weren't available to him to breathe are, they're just healing. :-)

I swear to Jim is f'king with me...I went from thinking he could die to seeing him doing even better. Sheesh. Sorry about the panic everybody!
