New rider here...what do you do with your gear/helmet when going to a store or to eat

I have gear I'm sure would walk off if left on my bike(especially my shoei) and am worried enough about my bike being in the parking lot where she can get stolen, so i put my gloves in my helmet and walk around carrying it and have my jacket/boots on.

today i went to walmart and felt kinda douchey for walking around in my gear but i dont see any alternative. what do you guys do? is it something i will get over?

i don't think i've ever seen someone at a store or restaurant wearing gear or carrying a helmet before which is surprising because there are a decent number of bikers i see on the street when riding.

I personally use to carry my stuff when I rode the street. Not worth the risk leaving it out.

If your just walking in a gas station you will be fine. However, going into a restaurant I would carry your stuff in and put underneath the table. Better safe then sorry

with the gear, IMO the bikes not even safe. I'd take the bike in if they let me.

Helps when the bike has hard lockable storage. I don't think I'll buy another street bike that doesn't have a way to add hard case(s).

Otherwise,Wear your gear and tote your helmet.

Ive been to several grocery stores (pearland, mo city, and in river oaks) and left my helmet (which i got for $50) on my bike every time. and im usually inside the store for about 20min max. if i had a shoei though i'm pretty sure i'd take it inside.

The other day i saw this guy walk into the best buy, didnt even bother removing his helmet. Had his shield lifted up, he obviously didnt give a f***

but no way im leaving my rf1100 outside on my bike, i walk around with my gear on, take the helmet off though so it doesn't look like im about to hold up the place. just like the other guy said up there, if you can take it off and stick it under a table then you can... but if you cant, then oh well nobody is going to mess with you just remember youre now a biker.. and everyone else is just a mere mortal. their opinions dont matter to gods like us

Gloves in helmet, fasten chin strap and carry by strap so gloves don't fall out. If Im out shopping I take off jacket I carry it over shoulder.

I've walked around Kroger in a one piece race suit, and I wasn't even riding that day

Ok, I was, but who cares

I take my gear with me and none on the floor.

If you are going into a bank take your helmet off before you enter. Personal experience.

I'll carry stuff, or lock it to the bike using the built in cables. Only small gloves fit under the seat though. Depends on weather and parking spot if I'll leave with bike or not. In the hot sun, or chance of rain? Carry in.
At a restaraunt, say there's an extra person and carry it in.
Same with Jacket, though more likely to just carry/wear it.
At a store, I just push the gear around in the basket.... and try to laugh, or at least smile, when a clerk makes a joke about having to pay for it, I'm stealing it, etc.

I seriously try to avoid putting helmet on the ground... the only place it has been unavoidable is at school. And it got kicked (lightly... but I like my helmet pretty )

Oh, and if meeting people, sometimes I'll just toss it in their trunk.

How cold was it? Raining? Probably needed to thaw hands a bit, or get out of rain before removing helmet. I'll do this at work, especially if my hands are full anyways.

the gas station clerk got all worked up at beltway and 59 on the north side when I did that. Said I better not come in with the helmet on again. Guess they've been robbed enough at that shell.
