Yeah, no roads like that (nor castles) anywhere near here!

Welcome to MH! My cousin lived in Belham just outside of London. I can't wait to go back. Actually last time I went to London is what spurred me to get back in to bikes after about 4 years out of the saddle. I was breaking my neck watching all the bikes out there.

Be careful here though. Car drivers are no where near as used to bikes here as they are in London. They will never see you coming here.

Exiled Geordie here. Don't worry about getting used to the roads as they are all as straight as an arrow for the most part.

Houston drivers are ALL . No one is looking for a bike, so you have to ride far more defensively than you do back home.

It is boiling from May to September, so you will need some type of perforated jacket for half of the year.

Bikes and insurance are cheap as chips, so it shouldn't be long before you have enough dosh to pick one up.

Trackdays are also cheap and there are loads throughout the year. There are 3 tracks within 90 minutes of Houston.

If you fancy a go at racing, the greatest club in the country is right here in Texas. It has spawned talent such as Schwantz, Edwards, and Spies. Perhaps you've heard of them?

Well, all the best for New Year and good luck with the move.

PS- engine ice. It's expensive ($20/half gallon) but will keep the temps down 10-15 degrees (F) cooler than regular antifreeze. My fans rarely come on unless in gridlock

Hello, and welcome to Texas.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. It could be warm and unpredicted lay rain, as long ad you're willing to sweat some and have vented jacket, it would be fine

You may find that depending on your tolerance for cold, there'll still be one long riding season here, but for you it might be November->June.

I haven't ridden in Europe, but did do a year in California, which is very bike-friendly. So I can confirm that drivers here in Texas have a massive blind spot for bikes. However, when I switched from black leather to a high-viz yellow textile jacket, my scary moments with cars dropped down to almost nill. Something to consider.

Welcome to Texas! What part of town will you guys be settling in to?

Love the UK. It will definitely be different here. Look forward to meeting you sometime in the future.

Eilean Donan Castle is one of my favorite places on earth. Love that place.

Looks like a nice VFR also. Too bad you have to sell it. You can pick one up over here at a good price.

I think the biggest change from UK riding to here in the states is the quality of drivers. Here we start in cars and only a few go to bikes so there is very little sympathy, understanding or cooperation between the two. To be legal to drive here you only need to operating brain cells so expectations are very low. My record so far is to be forced off the road by 3 different drivers in only 3 minutes.

When I ride in the UK (mostly London) there are far less problems with other traffic. The great news is that fuel costs about 1/3 than there and there are no restrictions on engine size you can operate with your license. You will rarely be rained on so you can store away that cold/wet riding gear and get yourself a nice mesh jacket.

I commute every day over here and the problems you will run in to should be very manageable with the amount of training Im sure you had to go through over there.

Let me know if I can help with anything else and...Welcome!

In Bruges, right? LOL

Killer Movie, literally, contract killer movie.

Anyone take any shots ( should that be Scots? LOL) at you when you were In Bruges.
