I wouldnt pay a title service to register the bike for you, its a simple relatively quick process and if you pick the right tax assesor's office, the line is small to non-existent (bingle & long point)

wow, thanks for all the replies guys! if you have a minute, can you tell me if my 'roadmap' sounds good?

1. complete and pass MSF/BRC course 1/5-1/6
2. get endorsement from DPS following monday
3. get insurance (probably minimum liability coverage)
4. transfer title

regarding the title, it was previously titled in Texas. we didn't write out a bill of sale. all we did was have him (seller) sign over the title. will this be a problem?

regarding inspection, which sticker is the inspection sticker? on the bike there is a physical license plate, a sticker on the upper right hand corner of the license plate, and then a blue sticker the size of the plate under it, with 2 holes punched out. one hole is a number (6) the other is a punch out of months, i believe it was either june, july, or august.

thank you guys so much for the help!

Big sticker with the numbers punched out is inspection. You should get a new plate when you transfer everything, just in case......you will need the form that was listed above filled out in place of the BOS.

Also, Id probably at least get comp coverage on the bike to cover in case of theft/etc.

Sticker in the upper right of the plate itself is your Registration sticker. The state inspection* sticker changes colors from year to year and can also be located in various locations next to the number plate, typically located below it on most stock bikes with the OEM undertail. The inspection sticker should be clearly labeled as such.

yes and yes, I always used a title service, they always have the inside connection that allows all of their paperwork to pass through easily, they know what they need to have and how to have it and usually get your plates the next day, hassle free. I hate going to tax office and always drop off my paperwork at Gulfcoast title service, but I heard lately they closed the doors due to owner illness. but there are others out there that have been around long enough to trust.

state inspection only required for out of state transfers. if it has a tx title then inspection is not needed, although i've heard lately, they won't sell you a new registration sticker without inspection being current.

bill of sale not required, but title transfer form 130u is required to be signed by both seller and buyer as well as the back of the title.

download vtr-130u from here: http://www.txdmv.gov/whatyouneed/for...gistration.htm

will i need some sort of motorcycle inspection like a car?

do i need a new tag?

do i need the motorcycle endorsement to register the bike?

thanks for any help!
I registered mine without getting a new tag.

just to make sure i'm clear:

-bill of sale is not required
-VTR130u is required with or without bill of sale
-signed title alone is not enough

is this right?

Bill of sale is worthless.....they will not even look at it.

Correctly Signed title + 130U form correctly filled out is all you need and what they require
