I used to park mine outside. it lasted for 6 weeks before being stolen. Now I go through the same trouble as this guy and park it in my dining room. But I have no kids.

Yes, it is against fire code. I had my bike on my porch when I had an apartment, but I did not have the railings, so it was much easier than that, but they came by and told me that it could not be there due to fire hazard laws. They told me that they did not care, but if the fire marshal happens to roll through the apt. complex, you can get a hefty ticket, they could get fined and then lead to being evicted.
