Mechanic Help!

My 2000 F150 has 105,000 miles and few months ago it felt like the transmission was slipping when giving it too much gas so I drove it easy for a while until recently when it became worse and I knew it was time to fix.

SO I take the tranny to get rebuilt and have a shift kit installed. 1 month of dicking around putting it in taking taking it out puting it back in I have finally picked it back up and the mechanic has told me the tranny is fixed but when I drive it it "feels like" it still slips when I punch it to the floor or give it too much gas. He says it is no longer the tranny but 1 of 2 things - fuel pump or some T...S...P... bla bla thingy part that is causing the "slipping feeling"

Guys I have no idea about mechanics - Am I getting the run around because he couldn't get the tranny properly fixed or is he for real and do any of you know what type of money I am now looking at spending?

I had to take the truck from him coz I need it for work and it has been way too long so I told him I would take it back next weekend but I don't know if I can trust him. PLEASE ADVISE!!!

The fuel pump, tps (throttle position sensor), and or the IAC (idle air control valve) as well as a number of other things can cause the motor to feel like it is lugging. (might be misinterperted as slipping)
It wouldn't make it feel like it is slipping to me. Those issues would make it feel like you are putting your foot down and the motor does not rev any harder. Lots of times the power will not be there for a second or two and then it will kick in. That could possibly be misinterperted as slipping.

Without driving the car it is hard to tell what is going on.

Good luck,

if its doing the same thing as before, then why do you think he knows what he is talking about when his first diagnosis was the transmission?

If you do need an honest and affordable mechanic one of my good friends will help ya out.
If the cat is bad, remove, replace with straight pipe. Just don't tell anyone. And take it to a friend for inspection. Very illegal, but more power to ya.

Once again a bad cat would not make the tranny slip, just make the motor lug.

Scoots got it right, the correct diagnosis is the most important part of repair. If you don't have a good diagnosis, you at least need a game plan.
Transmission to TPS or fuel pump is a pretty game plan.
Typically with a ford fuel pump you can hear them making noise before they fail, and once they start making noise they don't last long.

I have seen/heard of this symptom on at least 3 Expeditions (same motor probably). If you need an honest mechanic near Downtown try Bobby at Tech Auto on Heights (across from Chatters Bistro). He is an honest guy and he won't d*ck you around.
