I could not tell if he was screaming to warn the other rider, or just from realization of what was about to happen.

it's probably one of those screams that afterwards you would have no recollection of.

Looked like the dude with the helmet cam was riding over his head and for the most part, out of control. Accidents happen, though. Definately looks like it hurt.

Douches like that are why i don't ride at motocross parks anymore. I've had more people jump near over my head, near me, sideswipe me, etc than i can count, and those weren't even races, but just out for fun laps.

A friend of mines little brother got killed like that, they were racing 80 and 100 class together and his brother on the 80 had a guy on a 100 coming up behind him landed on top of him and the footpeg went through his helmet and he was in a coma for 3 days and then died, I knew the whole family and they of course were crushed over the loss of the youngest son, maybe 11 or 12 at the time, they all quit riding after that, was sad indeed

I know a similar story from eons ago only, the little guy survived and a couple months later we were on a big organized ride to Washington on the Brazos.
His dad had a CBX and the boy was riding on the seat in front.
Since I was part of the group that organized the ride I was moving up through the pack, when I came past them I looked over and the dad had his arms crossed and the son, about 9 years old, was driving.
I thought that was pretty cool.

I've been at the track a few times when a kid got killed while on the track. Very sad for not only the family and friends but for everyone in the sport locally as well. Everyone feels it. Puts things back into perspective everytime you see someone leave the track in a helicopter or ambulance.

I dont know that I willl let my son ride motocross for this very reason, to many horror stories. Instead I think we will just ride trails together and enjoy it for a hobby and not a competition.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet it was the novice class. I always saw more crashes in the novice class than the beginner class. You get a mix of riders who are fresh out of the beginner class that push themselves too much to try and keep up with the faster novice riders. Then you have the faster novice riders that push themselves to be intermediate fast but can't control their bike as those speeds and hits the fan all over the track. PLUS they are normally the biggest group at the track which never helps.

Sometimes I wonder how the i never crashed or got caught up in a crash when I was a novice.

FWIW, it really depends mostly on the rider as to how dangerous the sport can be for an individual. Some riders are naturally safe and aware of their surroundings on the track and are calculated in their mistakes (if that makes any sense). Some riders really just don't belong on the track because they are wreckless, always ride over their head and are a natural danger to themselves.

I think you'll have plenty of time to see how safe your boy will be if yall decide to start hitting up the track or even think about racing. I have a feeling your boy will be itching to hit the track in the years to come

Just my .02
