There is no proof of this, only speculation. Stop spreading rumors.

Yes, this would be a problem for us if countries did this. It would be devastating if OPEC decided to do this as a whole. This system basically allows the US to run a trade deficit with the rest of the world with little to know economic consequences. It works by allowing other countries to buy our dollars with their goods to pay for their energy on the world market. The US dollar is backed by the US economy and is printed by the US government, who then pays for the goods imported by other countries. It's sort of of like getting something for nothing really, since the US dollar is technically just a sheet of cotton paper which only has a representative face value while the goods we import have tangible value and represent the labor of their exporting country.
define rumor: A rumor (Commonwealth English: rumour) is a piece of purportedly true information that circulates without substantiating evidence.

NO PROOF?? The whole freaking Iraq war is based on a 'rumor'. What color is the sun in your world?

Bottom line: The USD is our country's hot check. Basically the US economy sux donkey nuggets. We've been writing checks for years that we can't cash and we're literally banking (no pun intended) that we can keep it that way albeit using tanks and aircraft.

We need to stop BS'ing around in this country and plan for the future. Look at the Asian's. Japanese companies and government plan for 5, 10, 15 years from now .... we plan for NEXT QUARTER. WTF?

Is this thread about War with Iran or The War in Iraq?

Would you please stay on topic, sometimes you bounce around more then a prostitot on pixy sticks.

The Iraq war was based on the best intelligence that we had about Saddam at the time. This is the same intelligence that Clinton had, the same that the French, Russians, British, Germans, and Spanish had. Did Saddam have a history of using WMD? Yes. He used it on the Kurds in 1991 and the Iranians in the Iran Iraq war. Did Iraq kick the IAEA out of his country and not allow them to conduct nuclear inspections resulting in international suspicions? Yes. Did he defy every UN resolution that was passed regarding himself? Yes. Was he intimately involved in the oil for food scandal, which by the way was the largest money laundering scheme in the history of the world. Yes.

Wrong again Den-boy. Unemployment is at record lows. The DOW is at record highs and the US economy is the strongest economic engine in the world. American manufacturing, quality, and productivity is second to none.

And we will for the foreseeable future with no dire economic consequences. The Euro has it's faults. The EU's central government is in shambles and their constitution was given a major set back 2004. Until they can get their constitution ratified by member countries and achieve some semblance of a unified central government, their currency will be second to the Dollar on the world stage. OPEC has no plans to switch to the Euro any time soon and the demand for Petrodollars is as strong as ever.

And become more like whom? France? :laughing6

Go take your hate America Socialist soap box somewhere else.

We do have strategic planning for 5, 10, 15 years ahead, but some of us are too short sighted or ignorant or wrapped up in their own socialist agenda to see beyond their own nose, or beyond next quarter for that matter.

I'm not going to play into the immature of this. I'm here so deal with it and move on. If you don't like my opinions on matters, don't read the posts in the Political Asylum. Simple as that.

You can call it what you like but It's exactly the type of thing that is being discussed here lately. People that don't contribute and are only here to cause drama.

Whatever. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this. Reply if you like - I'm done.

Back on topic.

I ran across this today. An interesting read from the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6376639.stm

According to the article there are two triggers for war with Iran.

"BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner says the trigger for such an attack reportedly includes any confirmation that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon - which it denies.

Alternatively, our correspondent adds, a high-casualty attack on US forces in neighboring Iraq could also trigger a bombing campaign if it were traced directly back to Tehran."

Lets discuss these possibilities. Would either of these possibilities be adequate to justify a US assault on Iran?

If Yes, what should be the extent on an assault?

If No, what would have to happen before you would support a military strike by the US on Iran?
