Transferring an Extended Warranty (Harley)

Does anyone know how easy it is to transfer an Extended Service Plan on a Harley?

I'm looking to buy a 2009 Harley 883 Iron, and the guy just bought it in March (2nd Owner) and got a 5 year warranty.

I go look at the bike tomorrow and wanted to be up on the process beforehand.

Right now, I'm making assumptions, until I talk to him again, that he bought this bike from a dealer (hence, the warranty). I say this because his words were, "I bought a 5 year extended warranty."

He upgraded to a bigger bike, pretty common for Sportster owners. I know I bought a 2005 Sporty, traded it in 6 months later for a Low Rider, and then 6 months later had my current 05 Softail Deluxe.

If I make this deal, I'm putting my 2012 650 Ninja up for sale, it has less than 2000 miles on it, and a 4 year warranty. But, well have to see.

WHHAAAAT!? I just asked how you liked the bike and you said you liked it! Why get rid of it? And for a Harley... we aren't friends anymore if that happens

The warranty should be attached to the bike and not owner. Any dealership can look up the bike's info and verify the warranty and when it expires. try to meet him at the dealership he purchased the bike from to verify the warranty info. Plus it's a safe for both of you guys.

The warranty could just as easily be attached to him and his bank. I bought all of mine through my CU and I usually cash them in when I sell a car or truck. Depending on the terms you can get money back on them if you dont use them

He should give you a little card, that says Harley Davidson Extended Service plan, it's kind of like a credit card, on the back it has the sevice plan contract number, and the original owners name, call the number on the back and tell them you need to transfer the plan.

They will do it over the phone. When I bought my bike used, the guy had paid for the extended service plan, and it was good for 5 years, he bought an extended three years on top of that.

I just made the call to the number on the back of the card, they switched it no problem. If I remeber they sent a form in the mail for me to sign and send back.

Call this number if you need more details, 1-800-527-7655, it's the number on the back of the service card I have in my wallet.

I go from a 1200 Sportster to a CBR1000RR and back every week.

It fun riding bikes on the opposite ends of the spectrum in both riding position and performance.

Ha!

But remember, the Kaw 650 isn't a Super Sport.

So this isn't that far of a leap.

Like the others have said... really depends on who the warranty is through, though it sounds like it Harley.

Your 650r just stand out too much in your harley crowds?
I'd REALLY like your thoughts on the switch from 650r to sportster... as it's something I've considered in the future.

I'd want to mod the harley a bit, and the bike + mods just isn't in the budget now. I remember how quickly the "odds and ends" added up on my 650r.

I have a Harley Softail Deluxe already, but I always wanted a smaller lighter bike. I regret selling my Yamaha Scooter. It was perfect for just zipping around MidTown - but I had to go and get this Ninja.

In the end it wasn't what I expected, and that's ok. It's a part of our DNA to experience as many bikes as possible in our lifetimes.

Truckin_Thumper - Oh I know. It's what we do, is mess with each other. As long as we are riding it's all good.

Chevy - you make a good point about the Odd and Ends ... on this Ninja, I bought Lift Stands, and Luggage. And that was just the first month.

If I get this Harley, whomever gets my Kawasaki will get a good bike. Plus, it has the 4 year warranty on it.

I'll just have to figure out how to price it.

It was $7500, plus the 4-Year Warranty ... $8000.00 rounded off.

I bought it in June, so 6 months old, and just under 2K on the odo.

What should I ask for a Price?

I'm keeping the luggage but it will come with a stand (front/rear).

Oh here is my real bike ... the one they will have to bury me with because there are WAY TOO MANY odds and ends on here to ever recoup!
