Thinking about a Ducati 999

Just curious if anyone has any input, owns one or has owned one. 2003 model{1st year i think} any known problems? what should i look out for? I am thinking about doing some track days. I will street it from time to time im thinking also. about 15000 miles and looks clean, runs perfect but im a little gun shy about the ducs and maint.

A 1098 is a better bet. I had a 2008 for a while, great bike, no big deal on maintenance. Starting in 2007, Ducatis had (have) longer service intervals..

Thanks for the info Greg. This in an 03 that looks to have been pampered and the price is right. I read all the mag. tests i could find on the bike. Just wanted some real rider input. Being the 1st year and all of that model. I always wanted a 916. But i think this will do fine.

Pachuco is the man you need to talk to. I actually know lots of people that say the 999 is better than the 1098..they just didnt like the looks. id ask when the valves and belts were done a that may affect your price.

triple 9 is an awesome bike. I have the 06 s model which was the last of the hand built bikes and before the 1098 exploded in numbers. Way fewer 999 on the roads. It also has the most wins in world superbike for ducati by model. It is a champ on the track, and a finicky on the street. I love the S, and mine has 19k on and runs strong as horse. More money was spent on the 999 than the 1098 and you can tell in parts and especially when you remove the fairings.

If you ride it a lot it will cost you in maint. No way to get around it.
I had a 999S, and even having 2 other bikes I put around 7k-year on it including track days. That is 1 valve adjustment per year and they don't do them for free.

Great bike, but now I know why so many people have them parked in the house and just look at them.

I liked my 999 except for the wiring (like all docs) and the exremely hot seat. The tank goes down and is part of the seat and once that metal heats up then its swamp all day. They chew up rear tires like there nothing, kickstand gets loose frequently, taking the fairings off is in a pain in the (there is an allen wrench under the seat to remove the fairing to get to the tool kit lol), rearsets need to be replaced as they did not fix my big feet. However...... This was an awesome bike to ride and had gobs of torque and was up there in top 3 ducs I have owned. Oh and the fuel pump burnt up nicely from trying to start.

Well the 999 is the one bike I remember falling in love with at first sight... I think about it all the time... you know when I need to

I've always thought they were very distinctive, and not in a bad way! I dig the 916 styling, but it wasn't the last word by a long shot.

I loved my 999. It was an 04 and man that thing sounded better than any 1098/1198 to date. If you ever watched a live race with a 999 racing you'd be in love with the sound. Although heavy and flicks slower once turned its like it's on rails. I have my R1 now but would trade it in a heartbeat for a similar spec 999. Curious is there a good deal out there?

I plan to have a 999 in my garage at some point. I wasn't a fan as I never really liked it in street trim, but the race spec bikes were always awesome to me. If I do get one, I'll defintiely get an ehxaust to clean up the rear and get rid of the flaps on the front. If you've found a deal you can't pass up, I'd say go for it.

I am going to pass, i had dreams of doing some track days but its not going to happen soon. This is a 2003 ducati 999 and it can be had for $4000.Owner has dirtbike fever and wants to sell. I think the price is a steal. It runs and rides perfect, has a termangi exhaust also. It does not appear to have ever been down either. Its an awesome find, i just dont need it at this time.Owner has title in hand. It is still available.
