Ducati and the Red Key

Seen ads on tv for goodwill and the little black dress and now having read a few ads for Ducatis and specific mention of a red key I had to find out what that was about.
http://www.bikenet.com/articles/duca...e-red-key.html

A couple articles later and my thought is if buying a ducati in that year range you better have the red key or you should knock a few 1000's of the price. Or is there something I am missing?
Is there a way around the red key dilemma?
Do they give you two when you purchase a bike?

Only necessary if you need the ECU reflashed.

Two reg black keys and one red key.

Can buy a new red key but only along with cluster and ignition.

What I think is kinda stupid is their fix for the "red key dilemma" is to give you a key card. How is that better?
They just changed the form of the key to a flat card. At least the red key was sorta cool. It had style. The card has no personality but you still have to have it.

Red key is not needed unless you lose all your keys. We can reflash and have more keys made at the shop if no key is available. Or we can reflash just one extra key. Just gotta know some people who wont rip your head off to do it.

From how it was explained to me when i bought the bike is that the red key is the passive master key, it goes with the ignition cluster as a system. You can start the bike with it when losing all other keys. Like said above, you can get the regular keys remade if you lose them, but if you lose the red key and have no other regular keys, will need to replace the ignition cluster. If I were to buy a Ducati that doesn't have the right red key, I'd be concerned that its red key is still out there and someone still can start my bike.
