Buying a bike off Craigslist

Is there a sticky or thread with info? Tried search but couldn't find anything good

Anyway, I want to buy a bike off Craigslist after I went to my credit union and got approved for a loan...what's the steps to buying it? Plus I want to bring it or meet the owner at a shop to get it inspected....what do you do when you buy bikes off Craigslist in my situation?

What kind of bike and what price range are you looking at?

I've got an R6 posted for sale here, and I'm about to put it on CL (roughly by end of the week) - which is why I'm asking.

I suggest filling out your profile info so we can send you to the closest reputable shop for inspection.

1. call said bike owner and ask to meet at a shop
2. meet said owner at shop
3. if bike checks out go to bank
4. fill out paperwork at bank
5. get keys
6. go ride said bike

if it is an unsecured loan, skip the bank part.

Patrick @ Motorcycles Unlimited does inspections. Other shops will, too.

If the seller wont agree to having a shop check it out, I would walk away. He is probably hiding something.

If you dont know enough about bikes to do a proper inspection, I would take any bike to a shop before laying out cash. ESPECIALLY a financed bike!
