Deals Gap, Spring 2013...

Mark the calendar for the annual Deals Gap visit:

Not noob or cruiser friendly!
Plan on lots of curves and lots of miles..

Please make sure your license and insurance is up to date.. Po Po don't play

May 27-31, 2013

Check in afternoon/evening May 27
Check out early June 1 (sat morn)

Staying in Fontana Village, NC

I plan on getting a cabin this trip; size will depend on interest

I will reserve a pair of the 3 room/5 bed cabins next to each other.
The rates are $267 a night for that time frame, so figure $55 or so a night each with tax, per person.
Staying 5 nights.

If someone wants to really rough it for the week I'll bring my fold up Army cot; you'll still have to pitch in $$ for the cabin.

If you change your mind about going please let me know as soon as possible.

Also note beside your name if you have been to the Gap before.
If you are in BOLD that means you've paid for your room.

As long as you can ride you'll be fine. Not a whole lot of spots to let a big bikes speed shine, and I don't ride that way anyhow. Straights are for chilling and letting the group close back up...

"Anyone" can twist the grip in the straights.. what few and far between they are.

But I do like to do 250-300 mile days which is all day on those roads.

Last trip I was wanting to rent a DRZ400.. if that tells you anything about how tight a lot of them are.

I get a 25% discount; once we have enough with firm commits I'll look at a cabin. After that you'll be on your own, but if you join the Dragonslayers Club prior you can get the discount as well.

They have cabins as well as a lodge/hotel. Couple places to eat, store, 2 pools and gas on sight.

I've only done it in a car also, this would be my first time on a bike.

Whole 'nuther animal on a bike.. and The Dragon is just one of the great roads in the area... lots of others around there.

Oh yeah.. some basic rules if you are coming:

don't ride dirty
wear your gear, no room for error on these roads, kneepads highly recommended
bring a fresh set of tires
take the curb feelers off your pegs
leave the ego in the room, no trophy anywhere in those woods
be prepared to be worn slap out at the end of the day.. there are very few breaks or straights

I'll keep it in mind... if I do it I'm bringing the toy hauler and that makes it an expensive trip so I don't know. I'm currently thinking I'll focus more on the track next year than doing the dragon for the fourth time.

Definitely a lot of nice roads up there, Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohola, etc.... I lived in the Carolina's for a few years and enjoyed many trips up there in the Spring & Fall. Rainbow Trout fishing was a blast out there.
