Need to buy some budget gear

I'm a first time motorcycle rider, well I don't have my bike or license yet actually, but I'm trying to get my gear already in anticipation of the new bike.

What are some good cheap brands that will keep me safe? The main brand that I've heard of is ICON but I want to know of other different brands out there that could be good as well.

The only thing that I'm fairly certain that I know that I'm going going to buy is the Icon Lucky Lid helmet which I think is awesome!

What are some good boots/shoes, gloves, and jackets, pants and anything else that I might be missing?

any helmet, that is dot/snell approved with work. I would suggest going and trying the helmets on before buying, as they all fit differently. As far as boots and jackets go. I would stick with the main brands, maybe try and pick up some used gear. Jackets boots ect. Helmet i would stick with new, since they do expire, and can be damaged if dropped.

As far as helmets go, HJC is the best bang for the buck. You should definitely check them out.

Asians and their spices. I'll second the used gear idea. Great deals can be had on second hand brand name gears. I am happy with BiLt boots but I would shy away from anything else.

If you haven't taken your MSF course yet (mandatory), then don't buy any gear yet.

During class you're going to discuss gear and it's a great time to ask your Instructor these questions.

Also, if you take the course with us, we're going to give you a buttload of coupons which will save you money on this stuff.

I was thinking about taking the class at Lone Star but I might just take it at you place since you're actually pretty close to me. What are your prices?

When you are getting your gear, budget for a set of knee and shin guards. It is just $25 and it will save your skin if you go down.

The OP said he was interested in safety at a good price. Leg armor is very cheap and often overlooked. I don't think anyone is preaching about safety, just offering advice.

I've got the hook up for you, I can deck you out with everything but a pair of bots for 100.00

I have a nice pair of gauntlet gloves worn 3 times, size medium/small, a medium joe rocket textile jacket, and a medium helmet,

I don't have a pic of the jacket but if your interested I can get you a pic of that as well.

PM if interested Mike

Not all CG stuff is . Their gloves have held up well through summer sweat and daily use. Plus one minor off at that track.

Otherwise, watch for closeout, clearances, and yes, used gear.

That reminds me, I need to get off my lazy and post some ads here.
