Suzuki files Chapter 11

Maybe in the next year or two they will be caught up with all the tech in the Big 4....

Quote:
"BREA, Calif., Nov. 5, 2012 – American Suzuki Motor Corporation (“ASMC” or “the Company”), the sole distributor in the continental United States of Suzuki Motor Corporation (“SMC”) automobiles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and marine outboard engines, today announced that it plans to realign its business to focus on the longterm growth of its Motorcycles/ATV and Marine divisions…"

The market is not doing well. Ducati and BMW do not seem to be hurting as bad.

I wonder if people will always for now on have a tarnished vision of them or even boycott their items, similar to Harley several years back when they filed. Seems like alot of sh*t was talked when Harley filed, not so much now that a Sportbike company did......wonder why?

Their product at that time was the issue. Not just their financial status.

according to the entire article, its their car division that is in jeopardy, the motorcycle side is doing well.

"Following a thorough review of its current position and future opportunities in the U.S. automotive market, ASMC will wind down and discontinue new automobile sales in the continental U.S. "

"ASMC remains firmly committed to Motorcycles/ATV and Marine products, and these divisions are competitively positioned in their respective markets, allowing for long-term growth as economic conditions improve."

If we are talking about the early 80's it was also how Harley got concessions from the gubment in the form of special taxes on bikes over 700cc.
Harley whined that the mfr's had inventory stacked up from previous years and would dump them on the mkt at low prices. Those tariffs nearly killed large bike sales for a few years.
I had a Harley, liked it , always thought I would get another someday but after what they did to Eric Buell I'd rather walk.

I wondered how the motorcycle side could be hurting since we all know that EVERYbody rides a gixxer, ha!
Seriously though Gixxers have virtually replaced Ninjas as the bike everybody thinks of when you say, "sportbike".

They are hurting because a new 600 isn't much different than a 1k. 600 used to be their bread and butter. The weakness of our dollar isn't helping them either

Well that and their cars are pretty sucky. There are not very many Suzuki cars around, compared to other Japanese makes.
It makes sense the car part of the business would be hurting but the bike side has GOT to be pretty strong.

"Oh yeah? You know how I know you're gay? You described a Kia as badass"

Sorry, was watching the movie. Then read that blasphemous remark!

You can't deny that that is one nice car that is still under 30k. It is a very good buy and it looks great for the price. Don't agree? I dont give a .
