Cafe Lav

I've been working on this 78 Suzuki GS400 for about 18 month off and on.

Started here.....
IMG00083 20110701 1615

Inspiration from this.....
photo 5

A Laverda Montjuic, 500cc twin of the late 70's. In it's day it was maybe the original holigan bike intended as a Production race bike. The standard version over here in the States was called the Alpina.

Current status...
photo 24

Progress slow but includes; New Progressive suspension both ends, Raask rearsets, exhaust to suit, cast wheels, relocated battery to seat hump, tried 3 different tanks, lots of metal restoration, unseizing lots of bolts, Acewell speedo/Tach and grinding off what's not needed. Spending too much.......

Nice. Good inspiration as well. You don't see to many Laverda's around.

Haven't decided yet. Likely Laverda orange will be there as either the main color or and accent to perhaps silver.

The wheels were as easy as it gets on project bikes. They are off an 82 GS450 and were straight bolt on using the spacers, disc brake etc from the original spoke wheels. They are yet to be painted but I have restored and polished the wheel rims.

Small update that took hours to do. I wanted to keep the race tail look rather than a 70 Lucas light, so I found a Ducati 916 rear light I thought would look good, all I had to do was cut 2 square holes. Thanks to Dremmel I managed to cut the squares and then some very gentle hand filing to fit. Took all day to have only one minor oh moment and to epoxy something none to pretty to hold it in place.
