and i never said devin did a bad JOB DID I!!! I SAID I DONT AGREE WITH HOW I WAS CHARGED FOR WAY MORE THAN I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE . AND ANYTIME I ASKED TO SEE THE PRICING LAYED OUT INFRONT OF ME THERE WAS ALOT OF HUFFS AND PUFFS AS IF I HAD ASKED FOR SOMTHING WAY OUT OF A REASONABLE QUESTION. MORE THAN ONE PERSON HAS CERTIFIED THE FACT THAT I WAS OVERCHARGED AND THAT IS THE REASON I DECIDED TO VOICE THIS

And BTW, for the less informed and I don't believe I saw it as I skimmed....

If a "repair" calls for 2 hours labor, and lets's say the shop labor rate is
$100 a hour. First, the tech gets paid 2 hours wether it takes him a hour (most
experianced techs work at 150-200% effecincy) or 3 hours (it happens).

Out of that $100 the tech (again, depending on shop, tech skill, what have you)
makes maybe $20-$30 of it. The rest goes to over head (the majority of it) and shop profit.

The same as the gas station only makes a few cents per gallon of fuel they sell
a shop only make a few dollars per labor hour they sell.

That is all....

I don't have a dog in this fight so....

To be fair, most shops are going to charge more for your "help" and especially if you bring your own parts. Unless it is agreed apon ahead of time it is just straight up poor taste.

I agree with an earlier post, miscommunication. I took my bike there after I wrecked it for an estimate. I ended up fixing it myself but I understood the $75 charge for the evaluation. They don't work for free. The people behind the desk did seem a little pissy when I asked about some of the parts on the repair list and they tried their best to dissuade me from doing the work myself (again, it's their job so I wasn't bothered) the mechanics were more than accommodating and had no problems answering my questions about what needed go be fixed. The service manager (I'm guessing at this, he was the non-dirty guy in the bay) kinda pushed me out so I couldn't ask more questions. If they charged a diagnostics fee, personally I think that should have gone towards the actual labor done in the shop and not as an extra charge. I really think it's just the desk people.

alot of times i've seen estimate rates taken away or absorbed into the repair cost, if you do the work w/ them.

helps prevent alot of estimates for no work done.

Okay let me get this straight, you authorized repair work before seeing it on paper? Then you get ready to pay the bill and realize it's way more than you wanted to pay for?

Not trying to be an , but if you really are in business for yourself, you need to pay attention to what you are doing.

#1, always always always, get a quote before the work starts, and review it, make sure you understand what being done, how it's being done, what you are expected to pay, and how long it will take.
#2 refer back to #1

Sorry, but I would chock it up to stupid tax. You paid it in full, and I hope you learned a lesson.

He's not doing it for free.

Do a safety check before riding off after they do any work on your bike.

Boy this thread got good...

To the OP...what do you think would have been a fair price? $200? $160? Seriously....if this is all over $40 or even $80 difference then chalk it up to a learning experience.

I'd recommend PM'ing local sponsors for quotes prior to going to their shop.
