fuel pump question

Ive got an 05 gsxr 750 in my garage. Did some testing, fuel pump is getting voltage but disconnected pump from fuel rail, turned ignition on and no fuel came out of the pump line. It also doesnt make the "whining" noise while priming the line when the ignition is initailly tuend on. I told the customer needed fuel pump but also doesnt want to spend 3-7 hundred dollars on an oem part. (completly understandable). I checked ebay and saw they have just the motor for the fuel pump for roughly 60 dollars. has anyone ever done just a pump motor swap or recommend doing so? Id rather not just incase something else internal to the fuel pump is bad. any suggestions? I appreciate it!!

take your pump out and clean it. give it a tap or a few while jumping it with the battery to freed it. If it doesn't work then replace it. I don't see why you can't swap out the pump motor if you mechanically incline to diagnose or trouble shoot the problem.

Right. Planning on doing all that Thursday before I actually order anything. Just was curious if anyone had ever only replaced a motor and how reliable that route was. Everytime I've done it I've replaced the whole assembly. I appreciate your input bud.

I replaced my pump motor only with one for an Audi V8. It was pretty straight forward. I had to cut mine out of it's plastic case, so your swap should be easier. I found instructions online.

Well there's only two bolts holding it on maybe a connector or two. Just wondering how reliable just doing that is never heard of it before. All I've ever heard of replacing pumps.
