What r you gonna go, ins dilemma

So guy is on the Aprilia board. Deer jumped out in front of him, he avoided deer, crashed bike. 2012 Aprilia RSV4, only liability and comprehensive ins. Not full coverage.

he's trying to claim it under comp. ins is saying NO

He's fooked on a $15k+ bike

Many ins co say

Definition: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage is insurance coverage that helps pay for losses to an insured car due to fire, theft, or other losses that are not the result of a collision as stated in the insured's policy. An insurance deductible can apply depending on the insured's requests at the start of the policy. In most states this is an optional coverage and is not usually a required coverage. (note: Colliding with an animal falls under comprehensive insurance coverage)

So only if he hit the deer he'd be covered

just owning a bike without full coverage is irresponsible.
you either don't care or your bike isn't worth . now a $15k bike with no full coverage is just plain stupid..

I'm riding down the road and make a mistake on my own, or purposely doing something stupid causing me to crash. I don't hit anything.

I'll just tell the insurance company that a deer jumped out in front of me.
Problem solved?

Nope, you have to make contact w deer, and they are going to want to see deer guts.

He didn't hit deer, so no real proof of deer.

I was being sarcastic.

I agree with you, there should be proof of some sort. If not, then ANYONE can just call their ins co and say what I posted. Would be impossible to prove, the number of fraudulent claims would be astronomical.

Sure you can say that, they can also deny your claim.

I'm no insurance adjuster.

There is a name for that. . .I believe they call it insurance fraud! We had a member here that tried to pull a fast one on the insurance company, I believe they're still in prison.

It would probably be less painful than having your claim denied!

I don't see why deer guts would be necessary. You can total a bike with just a glancing blow. Sounds like he has a case to go after the ins co. People sue their own insurer all the time. Just ask many of the Ike homeowners. Might not get back all he's due, but its better than nothing.

The guy must have paid cash for this bike. Most lien holders require comprehensive and collision. That would suck to still have to make payments on a bike that is totaled.

Meh. If you can afford to write a check for another one, why not? I surely wouldn't put full coverage on a $15k vehicle and there's a greater chance my daily driver will require an insurance claim.

Once my truck is worth $10-$15k I'll happily drop full coverage. It's paid for, but I wouldn't want to write check that big for a while.
