I haven't taken mine apart (07 model) but looking at the service manual, the clutch release assembly is a toothed assembly that supposedly could get rounded off. It's under the front sprocket cover on mine. I think 3 bolts hold the cover on and yeah, the clearances look pretty tight.

My rule for borrowing tools:

1. Borrow becaue you HAVE TO, not because you CAN
2. Return tool in better condition than you received it
3. Never ask the lender to bring the tool to you; you go GET the tool
4. Borrow tool for the minimum time necessary to get your job done
5. Borrow at the lender's convenience, NOT YOURS
6. If lender needs tool back before you are done, return tool IMMEDIATELY
7. Always show your appreciation for the lender's generocity (if you have to ask how, you don't deserve to borrow)
