This actually happens.

Also it is statisically safer than not splitting.
I have a few places that get split on an everyday basis.

Once you are used to it, it feels dangerous not to split.
I've only split with other random riders about 4 or 5 times.

Legal or not, Ill never Lane Split or Filter, whatever. Its a stupid concept for me regarding safety, its bad enough trying not to get killed in your own lane with safe following distance. All it will take is to get side checked in traffic between 2 cars to make you think twice.
In my personal car if someone is lane splitting I wont try to stop them but best believe if the Rider hits my car, hes getting chased down with vengeance.

First, I will show you the end. You see there was an accident by the coolent all over the roadway. Such was my suspicion as I know the traffic patterns fairly well. The rest are me splitting. Riding on those white plastic domes, between two rows of cars is not easy.

Anyway & again, this is my form of protest. I think the laws should be changed to allow for exactly what you see me doing here. In just about every other part of the world this is simply knows as riding, not filtering/splitting. If my moto were not water cooled I would do this much more often.

Also, please know I am fully insured both for liability, health and life. If I was to clip a mirror (and I am sure I got very close) I would gladly stop and offer my collision insurance information.

Go fourth, filter & split safely.
That's the only way I have been riding for years in France and it will become the law next year over there.
I still ride the same way here when i ride alone and people seems to be .....,group ride being different of course.

If I could get the part of the vid of me lane...er...filtering pass an HPD from 288 to 45 I would post it up.

Filtering is the only way to ride with these idiots on the road

If traffic is moving at 20mph or less then you should be able to lane split IMO. That's what was suggested in the law that never can get passed. However. too many people get butthurt when you do it because they feel like they are missing out on something.

People in cars need to learn to a) drive like their in a car and b) understand that we are on bikes thats why we drive as such.

I cannot believe how many drivers i see cut others off or speed up and try to over take me just to "act" like they're driving a motor cycle. if they want to drive like they're on a bike, simple, buy one and ride one, but if you're in a car drive it like a car

it all goes back to the pace, and riding your own ride but people cannot grasp that concept here in texas.

Watched a moto cop split to the front of the light, stop, then proceed to run the light just before it turned green yesterday. No lights or sirens

Thats what im saying the law doesnt clearly define what is "SAFE" and what isnt as far as the original "rule" that determines whether we cant lane split. Then they refer you to some other law that says a lane change must be made safely etc. etc.

At a stoplight the other day when ALL the cars are stopped, and its been a good 30 seconds i would feel reasonably safe to filter to the front of the traffic line. especially if im taking a left and all the cars are blocking the way.

that being said in situations where they're light to no traffic i would most likely stay where im at. but im talking M-F 9-5 when people know that they're about to be driving in that type of traffic conditions.

I lane split when people block the fast lane, and they are texting. If traffic is gridlocked I will lane split untill it picks up again.

Ever gotten heat stroke in traffic? I promise the effects of barely moving and sitting in uncovered traffic on a packed highway are severe. Maybe less severe than a possible accident slowly rolling the line through traffic, maybe not. Would rather keep my wits sharp and split lanes than sit still dizzy and dry sweating.

Regardless of my views on lane-splitting here in TX, that is not exactly a convincing reason for doing it. That's like Harleys lane-splitting because they overheat. If you run the risk of heat stroke because of being stuck in traffic, you should look at improving your gear and hydration. And if it is so hot that the best gear and drinking plenty of water won't keep you from getting heat stroke, may be it's time to park the bike and take the car.

Not knocking lane-splitting here, or doing what we all need to do to keep cool while riding, but if the situation is that critical, I'd rather go ride another time.
