Unhappy Wow.. My Apartment Gate: 1 - My Bike: 0

I got soooo owned by my apt gate earlier today.

(Let me start by saying yes Im a noob and just got my 1st bike last week)

So I just got my license plate for my bike this morning so when I got back I went on a little 15-20 min ride on actual roads with lights and what not. Everything was fine and dandy until i got back to my apt. My apt has a side gate that you can use, (less traffic) so when i pulled up to it i entered the code on the number pad (which is on the left side of the gate). I wait for it to open all the way and right when its finished opening I moved about 2-3ft forward and then the that i dread the most happened (stalled my dam bike!) . At this point im literally right infront of the gate and it immediately starts to close back up. the happened so fast. I panicked and just jumped off my bike as the gate took it to the ground. I thought the gate would detect that something was in its way and would open itself back up but apparently not. i guess my bike wasnt big enough?

So my bike and the gate get about half way across and i start pulling on the gate with all my might. and it finally stopped moving. Then i start trying to pick my bike back up. After struggling for about 5 minutes i was able to pick it up and move it to the side. Amazingly the damage was minimal (atleast to the naked eye). It took me a while to get it to start back up but it eventually did and was able to ride it back to my apt building.

I dont know much about the mechanics of bikes but since i got it started up again the engine sounds a little different when I give it gas. its a 2001 bike so I'm not sure how serious this is

But lesson learned. Im not fukin with that gate anymore. Sighs....

hahahaahahahahahaha lol

sorry, had to get it out of my system. we've all done something along those lines a few time, we were all noobs at one point. when u dumped it, some gas probably got out of your carbs, and probably one or two isnt flowing gas anymore. no big deal, just go out and start it, ride it around (stay away from the gate) and you should be good to go, if not have someone look at it.

where abouts in pearland are you?

Awesome.

I'm REALLY short (five foot nothing with a 28" inseam). When I first started riding nearly every time I had to stop on an uneven surface my foot would not contact ground and I dropped my bike. I had to lower it almost 3" in the rear and 10mm in the front, AND shave 2" out of my seat just so I could tippy toe.

You learn REALLY quick how to pick up the bike fast when you're embarrassed about having dropped it. I'm a pro now (at picking it up, not at riding).

. That gate did more damage that you thought.

Sounds like you need to have it looked at pronto. I would rescue you, but I am without a vehicle at the time.

Post a new thread saying you need help - somebody will come. They always do.

Dude...if I weren't in Conroe I'd come rescue you.

The other day I was at Steubner Airline/1960 in front of rush hour traffic and got bucked HARD. Reved the heck out of that sucker and got bucked a couple times...I was so red under my helmet. Got my bike worked on last week and they adjusted my clutch lever. Still getting used to it...at least thats my story.

Best of luck, amigo.

Prob the oil that leaked out when you layed it over. Clean of all the oil and see if there is still oil

possibly when it went over oil leaked through the crankcase breather into the air box and it was sucking oil in through the carbs...that will cause rough running, oil leakage possibly and grayish blue smoke.

I am surprised the gate doesn't have some sort of vehicle detection mechanism. I would talk to the apartment people and tell them their damned gate closed on your bike.

Have you gotten the chance to get it checked out yet? or look at it yourself to see anything weird or different?

yea i meant to do that earlier but i was so ..didnt feel like talking to any1 about anything. And my back was hurting like a from picking up my bike so as soon as i got to my apt i just wanted to sleep it off

ill tell them about it tomorrow..doubt they'll do anything though

my father in law was trying to take a look while I was stuck and after we got it back to my apt but it was dark outside (he is a mechanic but he knows very little about bikes). He was saying that the radiator got a little messed up and the gas tank would probably have to come off for it to be looked at properly bc it looked like where it was leaking from was from near there...i might try and look at it in the morning but that would be pretty pointless bc i have no clue what I'd be looking for.

my friend who actually worked on the bike is out of town for a couple weeks but i have another friend who said he will try to come and look at it on Sunday or Monday. and i told him everything that happened and he said it might not be as bad as it seems.

Apartment gates dont have laser sensors. Usually weight sensors before and after the gate and some are not as sensitive
