Baytown Drags

Diesel shootout Friday night. We will get out there by 7. All vehicles and motos are welcome. We will have a few trucks running, hopefully breaking into the 12's. just customer trucks though, still building the race truck.

Going to take the bike and see what it can do. 11's maybe?

oh yeah. the bike is my only petrol but i can respect that SIR! you ever want to tinker on it, swing by. settin up my compounds as of late. cheapies to start but get the job done.... 74mm over 88mm turbines. maxxed the stocker out. have fuel for a 1000. shooting for a very cool temp 1000hp.

anything to combat egt's? what kind of egt's ca a gas motor like yours reach on the run?

I think 12-1500 is normal. Iat's are watched more closely.A lot of guys spray meth injection to cool things down. I put down 480hp on 10psi. Daily driver no meth

Sweet! We put propane on one of our shop trucks for some mileage. Want to stack propane and water meth on our drag truck. We are going to use compressed gas to cool the intercooler before and during runs.

PROPANE+water/meth? Compounds HOPEFULLY breaking into the 12's?
Hate to be your customer.

74mm over 88mm turbines? are you putting miniture turbine engines in it? Did you mean turbos? Or are you just randomly throwing out the turbine size of one of the turbos? Why so big on the secondary? IF those are the compressor inducer sizes i hope you dont plan on this being streetable.

Dont think lott is putting this on anymore, so who is putting this event on? Prizes?

It's on our race truck. 6.7L cummins. The gt42 turbine is 88mm. The ht3b is 74mm turbine. It's definitely not supposed to be streetable. Building a dedicated race truck.

Sorry....in this industry we commonly just refer to the compressor wheel and turbine wheel.

can't tell if serious...

88mm turbine on gt42? what gt42?

So your compressor inducers are ~75mm primary and ~70-74mm on the secondary?

i'm so confused. Dedicated race truck with a 75mm primary trying to break into the 12s. People are easily spooling s400s (469,472,475) with 6.7s as a single. Why not throw a 475 on it with spray and be into the 11s?

And spray = nitrous. Not propane.

12s are old news. I could go buy a ec/sb 4x4 6.4 and be in the 12s with intake, tune ,delete.

In this industry... What industry would that be exactly?

Im not sure he was referring to nos or spray, i think he was literally talking about propane as an alternative energy (ie: natural gas). for better mpg.

Yeah the propane got nabbed for the one ton. Sorry dude it's a GT4202R stainless bb, 1.15 w/ 103mm exducer, 82mm turbine @ .60

It will support 1000hp. I only want to use it because it was free from a good friend as brand new, never been installed. What would you suggest be paired with it?

I'm new to compounding turbos. Yeah it's easy to DPF delete and tune and haul at the track

. I'm being conservative with numbers too because I really have no clue what this thing will run. One of my techs donated his '05 Reg cab short bed for the chassis. We aren't just building another 3/4 ton truck. Already have the adapter flex plate an flywheel for our full billet Ford 4r100 stuffed with reds, td billet tc etc. the 4r100 is such a beast. 4 speed is perfect for the track.

Exactly though Nick. The propane is supplementary. For our one ton it's about the mileage benefits. Want to see how it can help clean up at WOT on the Cummins 6.7 project truck. Z

Let me start by saying that i am NOT an expert on this, but know a thing or two.

Nice charger, but not to be paired with ht3b. The Gt42 has a 74.7mm inducer and ht3b is ~75mm. Which is almost the same, For a drag truck these really arent big enough to use as a primary, a little big for secondary depending on how big you want to go. What is the HP goal for this truck?

Many people compound the ht3b with a stock hx35 on the older trucks with good results and streetability. I know your not worried about it so you MIGHT actually be able to get away with using the gt42 as a secondary and a big (90+mm inducer) primary.

If that is what you have right now, and not going to be getting anything else soon, i would just save your money and run the gt42 as a single, wastegate on it, and spray(nitrous) the out of it. If you have the supporting mods, 11's will be easy, and if it will spool on the line it should be mid/low 12's on fuel depending on weight.

An example of compound size for a street truck is 62mm over 80mm. (inducer)
You want the secondary to spool fairly quick and then the primary will lite later.

To correctly size compounds you really need to look at the compressor maps with each turbo to make sure they will work together well.

Also, most people in the diesel world size turbos according to (compressor inducer/turbine exducer/exhaust housing size). Although with Garrett turbos you could just say gt4202r with 1.15 exhaust housing. Other wise for example a (66/73/.91) would be a Borg Warner 66mm compressor inducer with a 73mm turbine and a .91 exhaust housing.

For a wealth of knowledge and people that can really help you out, check out Competitiondiesel.com (hope i can put a link, if not remove it).

Good choice, Seems most run a 4r or 47re in the higher HP applications. Using a PCS?

Nitrous>Propane

No one in the "industry" uses propane to add power anymore. It is harder on the engine and not as effective. Properly used nitrous is actually pretty safe on a diesel due to the fact that you cannot run it lean. The only worry is a nitrous backfire if you spark a lot, real quick.

Not sure if your aware, but the Texas Diesel Nationals are in Ennis,TX (near dallas) this weekend. Might want to check it out as the fastest in the nation(and canada) will be there. So i would not expect many fast trucks(diesel) to be at RPR this weekend.
