My racing weekend

TXORR on Saturday in College Station and then onto TORCS in Bastrop.

All of you guys missed an awesome weekend of racing, Saturday’s tag team race with TXORR was great, a horrible turn out but the course was fun, it had a ton of elevation, and for Otis’ course, it wasn’t too difficult, Curt, Duane and myself ended up with a 2nd place finish at the end of 4 hours, we were behind somewhere around the 2 minute mark, (one of our competitor for first, his brother owns the property so he’s very familiar with the terrain) he was fast all day, I did my best to keep up but he just kept pulling on me with his knowledge of the place. Olivia and my son Cody did the non competitive tag team against another team of adults and they came out on top.. there plaque was bigger than mine 

After the race was over Saturday, we loaded up and headed to Bastrop, we were excited to race with TORCS on Sunday, there turn outs are massive, I had to have had at least 15 people on my row, with 4-5 rows ahead of me, I was trying to concentrate on smooth riding and staying up front as far as I could. When our green flag flew (dead engine start) wouldn’t you know it, my bike wouldn’t start, I probably had at least a 20 second deficit on the rest of my row. Finally got it started and I was charging hard, luckily the first portion of the track was all flat so that helped me gain some ground, shortly into the woods section, I ran into a pile up (and Dave) at a technical uphill right hander that was slippery if you didn’t have momentum, that held me up for a couple of minutes easily. Once I got up the hill banging elbows the last half of the uphill I had some open trail ahead of me (most of the trail was single bike, not many places to pass) I was pushing as hard as I could only having one practice lap I had to keep my eyes up as far as I could if I wanted to make up positions. In TORCS, each class is given there own colored sticker to help identify class/skill level, I was red, then there was purple, then blue and so on. I was searching for all of the reds as I was coming up on riders, I knew I had to get around them, coming up to the easy/hard sections, I knew I had to take the hard to catch up and make some easy passes, my first hard section was not difficult at all, I come roaring up out of the creek bottom on one wheel and turned to the left, I noticed three surprised riders to my right, they were all reds so I was pumped even more, I just kept my head down and pushed on in search of the purple stickers. Coming up to the next easy/hard, I was real intimidated by it, it was basically a shear drop off going in and pretty steep coming up out of it, you had to be hard on the gas coming out or you’re not making it, every time I came out of there I was in the air a good 3-4 feet (and you better be getting the bike turned hard left in the air) spectators were all over the exit of that section) once out of that, you’re into some flat ground again with tons of 90* turns around trees and back into the woods, I was making good time and was digging well into the purple stickered helmets, before I knew it, I came up on a couple more reds, (gotta get in front of them) passed them and started running into some blues . I ended up running four laps and could have possibly started a 5th lap had I not been held up in the beginning 2 times. I don’t exactly know where I finished class wise or overall until the results are online but I feel confident that I finished in a podium spot for sure and my overall has to be at least at the half way mark.

Next week is Cedar Creek all weekend, I plan to run Saturday and then again on Sunday for the 2 hour open C race, doing my best to get prepped for this GNCC race in November..

If you guys have time and want to ride/race, there are races each and every weekend this month, hope to see some of you there.

I will update with my official finish results from Sundays race with TORCS

Officially I was DQ'd due to my own class placement, I will now be placed in 30+C.

I kinda feel bad but I beat not only my class but I also beat the C class by 2 minutes.
