What to do.

This is a serious inquiry so please save the stupid answers for another thread.

So a friend of mine bought an 07 gsxr new in 08 rode it for not more than 6 months and laid it down. No major damage, only cosmetic. Anyway he fell on hard times so repaing it wasn't an option and he asked to keep it with me as he had no garage. Now it's nearing 4 years later and I haven't heard from him in over a year and I'm tired of looking at it in my garage. I've maintained it and it runs but hasn't been ridden in years. My question is what my legal obligation or rights are. The vin is clean. What to do. Can I sell it legally? File for lost title? Mechanics lean?

I imagine the loan is in default. I was going to look into the statute of limitations on adverse possession pertaining to automobiles if that's what it's called. So how do find the title company?

I don't know how these things work but, my concern would be to make sure the leinholder doesn't look at you as having what they consider a stolen bike.
Maybe I'm way off base with that but if it was me I would at least PM Wackjum (our resident lawyer and site sponsor) to see what he thinks of your potential legal liabilities and how to avoid trouble.

If your friend has the title, you can do what you want with the bike. If a bank owns the bike, it may be a slippery slope. Either way, a tow company might pick it up for you
