Riding pants or jeans?

Do you recommend getting riding pants or can I do the jeans + kneepad combo? Maybe add protective undershorts or am I better off just getting riding pants?

Jeans provide little to no protection for sliding. I recommend purpose built riding overpants, but I've heard good reviews of the kevlar padded jeans (draggin' jeans is one I've heard of). Plus the moto jeans don't look goofy like the overpants. YMMV.

Try some Icon Jeans they are actually made for riding but you can still wear em around. I bought some leather overs they are almost like chaps for cruisers and they work well but they are freaking hot and heavy too so I went with the Icon jeans and that works way better. they are comfortable but still offer protection http://www.rideicon.com/products/?productGroupId=242

I'm using Icon ARC overpants. Textile with some knee shim padding/guard attached.

I just use jeans and astar knee/shin guards. To me it's a personal decision. I.e. how much do you want to spend, how much protection do you want? I'm comfortable with jeans and guards. What are you comfortable with?

Normal street riding, i'll wear jeans but I would always prefer to ride no pants and no boxers. Something magical can be said about traveling highway speeds, standing up on the pegs and letting your junk flop about in the wind..

Jeans with Astar knee/shin gaurds. Started with knee/shin only on weekends and cold weather... but this summer I just never quit wearing them.

Jeans are mainly cause i ride everyday. Riding pants are too expensive to wear everyday (IMO), and overpants are too cumbersome to bother with everyday. I'm just afraid I'd be wearing out the pants by wearing and WASHING them so often. I'd either have to invest a fortune into pants, or wash them 3 times a week (if i bought just 2 pairs).

I used to ride in Shift Torque jeans w/ Kevlar in the knees and seat area. Under that I had Knox knee/shin guards.

Not gonna lie, I wasn't the most comfortable rider out there, but I was confident in my safety. I still have everything, just have no use for it anymore.
