i am not an expert in this area, but i have read that more cops killed in the line of duty are killed during a traffic stop...how does a cop know that a traffic stop runner does not hve more to worry about than the traffic ticket...how many folks actually run from just a traffic ticket.. the risk/reward is just not there for that...very few people actually run if all they are expecting is a traffic ticket... i think the whole not chase them for a minor traffic violation arguement is basically a nonissue as i do not believe that are many in the way of those type of runners....so i figure the traffic ticket arguement is a smoke screen for a problem that does not exist..no mentally stable person is going to risk running to avoid a few hundred bucks in fines.

And while we are on this subject, do you think it's okay for law enforcement to purposely look for speeders? For example, cop sitting on the side of the road with his radar gun out.

Then why's it okay for cops to speed? What do I do if I see a cop speeding while not on a call. (This kind of argument will be used in my paper, I don't necessarily agree with it.)

I'm okay with cops looking for speeders while on patrol but I disagree with them being fully stopped, hidden, looking for speeders. I've actually seen an accident caused by a cop radaring people in cinco ranch. Person saw the cop, freaked out, and went up a curb.

But I get the argument that you shouldn't speed in the first place, but who does 35 in a 35? Lol

Do you think that accident would have happened if the cop wasn't in the picture?

And honestly the person was probably texting and driving, I didn't get to see the person driving. I just assumed it was because the cop was hidden around the corner

I think the accident wouldnt have happend had the been someone competent behind the wheel.

What if another vehicle had been there(not a cop) What if some topless was hanging out?

Thanks everyone for helping me brainstorm. I think I will shift the topic of the paper more towards law enforcement traffic procedures rather than just pursuits. But hopefully that won't be too broad.

Despite many advances in safety and technology, speed limits have remained largely unchanged in the last few decades.

People wouldn't speed if they didn't feel as though speed limits are too slow. I do 35 in a 35, but people sure do hate me for it. So much so that it creates a hazard on the road at times, but last time I moved out of the way for somebody moving faster than me, I got the speeding ticket.

The current laws are simply outdated.

This is a video I plan on using in court soon. Skip to 3:40.

Statistics show that the faster vehicles travel, the less likely they are to collide with other vehicles.

Ya know, there are roads with no speed limits. They are safe.

I DO think we could use higher limits. (I'd prolly still speed lolz)

What those cops were doing..... legal? Maybe. Safe? prolly not the safest way to catch speeders. Just more efficient.
