the katy kart track is open for practice to any member on any day that there is not an event scheduled...i have not looked on their site to check the schedule this week....several of us on this forum are members there... you can go with any of us as a guest... or you can join the kart club and go any time you want...a kart club membership is $300 a year...watch the tmgp section on this forum as lots of times when one of us wants to go out, we post up and see if anyone else wants to go.. as it is not a good idea to go by yourself...it is always a good idea to have someone with you just in case ...i know steve was saying that he wanted to get out and get some practice with his new suspension and i would not mind getting another practice day in before the next race...
i think it would be great if several of us could get out there over the off season and practice together...it is more fun, at least for me when we have several bikes out together...

there are no trackdays per se....for just riding you can go with a member of the kart club on any day there is not an event scheduled...
TMGP races at the katy track several times a year between march and october and has alternate races at the denton track in the dallas area...
the cost of a race weekend will depend on how many races you run...it is the cheapest racing you can do...
the bikes vary widely in price depending on how serious you are...
lots of guys just buy a stock bike and put street tires on it, safety wire and go racing, others like to have every gadget they can find to make the bike special.. so you can spend quite a bit if you want...
it is usually cheaper to find a bike that someone else has built and buy it when they move up or do something different...if you are just getting into it like i did this last year, i would suggest a crf100 or a klx110 set up minimally to get the feel of it the first year and then add all the aftermarket stuff you want later...you can be quite competitive with a near stock bike in several classes....i made a thread in the tmgp section on this forum where i list all the classes you can read that section and there is also a thread there about the cost of getting started... it is great fun racing and you can not race any cheaper than tmgp racing...
