Not Starting

Hey what's goin on....well this morning tried to start the bike...it's a 96 gsxr750 srad....she would'nt start almost ran the battery dead...which i'm suspecting is weak anyways...just rode her day before yesterday and had the same problem...so i just pushed started it no problem...then it started up fine for me the rest of the day....well last night it rained hard and she sat outside in it....could this have affected it...I've read that these srads dont like the cold....I was planning on getting a new battery and a tarp for the wet weather....any other suggestions on what can be goin on....when i first tried to start her this morning she sounded like she was about to start...but then nothing after that...it just turns over and over and over....till the battery got weak. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the plug wire connections and/or the condition of the plugs themselves? What about your choke mechanism? Is it operating properly?

Get a new battery and a tarp to cover her up and keep her dry or bring her in out of the rain.

I'm thinking battery maybe it can't hold a charge over night but can hold one for a hour or two being off during the day.

well the other day when i started her up and had the choke on...it just kinda idled...maybe a bit more than an idle...but the engine did not rev up to 3 or 4 grand...so i gave it a bit of gas to try and get it to do that and it did not happen....but the day after that it did....so maybe it can be the choke....but looks like i will be going to get plugs and a cover and check the choke mechanism....and i really wanted to do some wet riding this morning on the way to work...arghhh

Fuel?
Air?
Spark?

and when you replace the battery, find you a battery tender at the store to go along with it, the new battery will love you for it...

I have a starting problem....I just noticed the other day when i had the choke on it didnt rev up like it normally does....but if i'm giving it gas it revs fine.....the rev thing with the choke has only happened twice...other than that it has always worked...i just want the thing to start gracefully....lol...

what does a battery tender do?

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!!!!

its the battery. i could be wrong but i would bet money on it. i had this same problem. yes, SRAD's dont like to rpm high at first either. you need to leave it choked and idling for a few minutes to get the idle up to 4k.

batteries need to be replaced every year or two, and the cold weather can put the finishing kill on a battery. i had the same problem where it just wouldnt start in the mornings. id have to push start it, then by lunch time it would be warm outside and i could electric start it. major pain in the .

i had it on a battery tender, and that helped for a couple weeks, but even with a battery tender a battery it eventually wouldnt start. threw in a new battery, and no more problems at all.

save yourself alot of frustration and go for the battery first. a good shop can charge it and test it for you, most likely you just need to replace it. if your on the SW side i can check it for you.
