Yeah, sure he'd hear it at 10 ft, but farther back? Not so cut and dry. Pinball's scenario seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Yep, as long as he never turned his head to look back to see who was behind him

Lets apply a little logic to his story.

If you're riding your designated track bike on the street (no lights, tags, mirrors, plates) you're already asking for attention.

Lets "just say" that you're abiding the law, riding reasonably and a cop pulls behind you and lights you up. Are you trying to tell me that under normal conditions you wouldn't realize that? I mean, REALLY??

You're riding down the freeway close to the speed limit (not trying to run from the cops), with 6 cops (allegedly) behind you and that would go unnoticed to you? So you just exit the freeway, ride down the feeder, turn into 2 Wheel Toyz parking lot, roll around and you just pull your into the back of the shop (with cops behind you screaming away) without you noticing at all because you've got a loud exhaust, headphones and no mirrors?

Give me a break.

Sure, riding a track bike on the street is illegal and stupid. That doesn't make you a runner though. I'd guess coming sown HWY 3 you could easily be doing 70mph without being ridiculous about it. Yes, its quite reasonable for a cop to try and pull you over without you realizing it.

This may or may not be the case. The fact that a whirly-popper is involved would make me think that it was NOT the case, unless he just happened to already be overhead.

Also, 6 cops at the scene of an arrest =/= 6 cops involved in the "chase".

I'm not saying the guy didn't run. I'm just saying it's possible he didn't know he had a tail. I've driven ambulances. Electronic sirens are almost useless once you get over 55 mph.

I do believe something very similar happened to at least one member here not very long ago. Never knew LEO was behind him. Granted...it was on a spirited ride and those are seldom law-abiding.

Very likely.

Well, I could see it. Coming back from a morning ride, I was on Joeybaila's r6 track bike (street legal) just no mirrors.

Have headphones on going about 80mph don't know how long the cop had been behind me, but I did not hear him. Only reason I turned around for was for a lane change to get ready to exit. I would not had heard or knew I was being followed to get stopped. I think what saved my was that he noticed my quit response to stopping once I saw him.

No ticket

So, if he never turned around, scenario is likely. But then is highly unlikely for someone not to turn around, even with mirrors.

Oh, and FWIW, all you guy's speculation goes out the window as soon as the officer testifies the rider turned and looked at him, and accelerated away.

It's a non-issue.

There's not much chance at all of him not being aware, honestly.

My money is on it already being in the air on something unrelated. Takes about 6 minutes to get it off the ground. Not sure where this "chase" originated, though.

Very true. HPD loves to jump on potential chases because it gives them something "fun" to do and since they're "assisting," they can avoid making other calls.

For a traffic stop? Please

I said there were at least 6 HPD units. I'll check the video and count them and give you an update Monday afternoon

I'd say it's perfectly reasonable for him to have never heard the sirens or noticed the cops behind him...up until the point he went to exit. Even if he didn't turn his head to make sure he was clear to exit (which would be stupid), there's no way he would have gotten into the parking lot and into the shop without noticing by that point.
