, I missed out on the Buell clearance sale a few years ago, and I'm probably going to miss out on these as well.

Hah, maybe the tank is just too high. That bike is sick though.

If they're selling for list price I'd rather have a CBR

The site gave the typical "click or call for quote". If I remember correct, they sat on a 2009 for well into 2010-2011 and really marked it down. Its kind of funny how so many people bag on HD for being poor at everything performance related, yet when they actually build something that is half-way good at it, it doesn't sell.

I rode an xr a couple years ago when republic had a factory test ride day. The seat was torture after 30 min but it wheelied like a beast. So much that they kicked me out when we got back to the dealership.

Same thing with the nightster i had, the stock seat was trash. Felt like my were right on the back bone (cuz they were). A better seat on any of them makes worlds of difference.

this is what i was going to do with my nightster. but after i test rode a buell i couldn't ever look at my harley the same way again. traded it for a buell and i love it. only screw up on my end i should'v gone with the newer 1125 which has a 6spd instead of a 5.

Problem with something like the XR1200X is that it's not what the typical H-D crowd want. However, for the rest of us non-Harley types, the performance is -poor compared to every other $12k standard/streetfighter/sporty bike out there. Heck, why would I want to buy a mediocre handler with a paintshaker of a motor coupled to a notchy tranny, when I can get a Speed Triple, Monster 1100 EVO, Tuono Factory, R1200R, Z1000, FZ1, CB1000R, etc. for the same (or less) money?

Oh, that's right... they are not a Harley.

The Street Rod suffered the same fate and was dropped only after two yr run (05, 06?), even though it was the best handling VRod Harley had ever built - the ONLY Harley I'd ever thought about buying.

I do want H-D to succeed and break out of the potato-potato business. Building something like the XR1200X, though, ain't gonna do it. It's still the same ol' bud.

I could have sworn that was a bailout by AMF followed by a buyback by the actual stock holders.

There are a list of reasons why he might not buy another one, but I doubt reliability is on that list. Heat would be the one reason I won't buy one again.

Yeah - that IS sad. They were onto something with the Vision and then totally lost sight of it.

According to HD, at least a few dozen

Would LIKE a more balanced pair of tires (but not 48 big). I'm not looking for SS handling (I don't even ride my 650r to it's potential)... but the sportster is another 150lbs over the 650r. Just don't think it's gonna be as effortless to cruise the corners as I'd like.
You'll be pleasantly surprised. The weight is not as much of an issue as you think. The Sporty is pretty top heavy and falls over real nice.

If you want to see just how nimble a big bike can be - watch a few of the po-po on their big Road Kings and ElectraGlides. Those are near 1000lb machines and they can make them dance.

I was thinking more of the tarriff on import bikes 700cc or larger. That was blatant protectionism at its best... or worst, depending on whose bikes you were buying. I had a Yamaha Maxim XJ700... in case there is any doubt which side I stood.

Yes, there are always people that think the only real Harley has a 45deg air-cool V-twin. Just like there are diehard Porschefiles that think the only real Porsches have air-cooled flat-six behind the rear axle. No to mention the BMW boxer afficionados. HD will keep building them to feed the demand.

I really do think bikes like the VRod is H-D's ticket to long term prosperity. How about some more of those, huh? How about some real V-twin peformance bikes? That divorce with Erik Buell is a shame. They could've built something really fantastic and gave Ducati a run for the money. Unfortunately, H-D execs think about sportbikes the same way Kodak execs think about digital imaging... right up until the demand for film shriveled into oblivion.

Oh, forgot to add... if H-D doesn't get their act together and suffers another '80s meltdown crisis... then ask the guvmint for another tarriff on import bikes... I'm gonna ride up to Milwaukee on my Kawasaki and rip somebody there a new one.
