Question ::: Need a bike in Houston. Please help!

Hi,
I am new member here, howerver not new at all on the www motorcycle community.
I'm from Vietnam and will have a biz trip to US this October.
I 'm planning for some days riding with friends around Texas during 1st weekend of October. After that, I will heading to Smoky mountain for another riding week with other forum inmates.

Yeah, I am looking for a rental bike in Houston area. Prefer Sport or Sport-touring/Naked bike, from 600cc and up.
If you know anyone willing to loan his bike or any place they provide rental service, please help to give me a shout.

Thank you very much.
VietHose.

i do believe that's a Negative ghost rider.. you might as well buy a bike for the price you're about to unload. even if you are able to rent a bike, it would run close to about 150$/day.. + insurance.. + security deposit.

Best bet would be spend 1000-1500 on a naked bike, ride it, and sell it when u leave. You can easily get back 1K of the purchase price if not more. so basically, 500$ to ride.. isn't too bad.

Thank you, but they just have HD for rent. I was riding cruiser 10years ago and found that I am not suitable for.

You right. I also 'd love to buy a bike myself, don't have to think much as it's mine anyway.
I was planning to buy a bike in Houston, ride in Houston for a week, then ride that bike to Smokey Mountain.
I was eying on a BlackBird which is asking $3K and a FZ1 for $2500 in Houston.
However, lots of advices made me more consider of rental more than purchasing.
If buying the bike, I may not be able to invest on an expensive bike. For a $1000-$2000 bike, I am not really confident with its performance and reliability, especially for a long ride. What if it break up at middle of the way - the repair cost may double the bike price though.
And more, I gotta care of registration and insurance, which is not an easy or even impossible for a foreigner.
... Ect...

So, to secure the good price of air tickets, I have bought return flight tickets from Houston to Atlanta. Plant to rent a bike in Houston and rent another bike in Atlanta.
Renting in Atlanta is much more easier as there are many providers.
My issue is getting a bike in Houston.

If you have any more info, please help...
Thank you.

Thanks for asking.
I have consulted with some cops from Officers.com and others that I will need my to bring with while riding/driving are my Passport, my current Vietnamese license and the notarized translation of my license.
I have booked a rental car from Avis for my time in Houston. All okay.
My friends also checked with some other rental places, they ok with that.

I rarely saw anything above 275cc in vietnam. If I did ever see a sportbike over there, I'd know that person is probably wealthy.

Haha. Not really. But I like your comment.
If you were in Vietnam, you may notice that the traffic here is not so good. Lots of small motorcycles, scooters on the road. Big bikes are not a good choice for daily commute to work.
Most, if don't want to say All of the big bike riders they just choose weekend to ride.
And where to ride? May be just gather in a coffee shop and chit chat. May be ride out to the country side, to highlands...
If you go to the right place, for sure your surprise would be very nice!

Way cool. I was under the impression that the police did not like anything that could outrun them. And that any modification to your bike was prohibited to deter racing. It's been a few years since I've been back. Maybe laws have changed.

Yeah. I don't think police in any country in the world like to chase the bigger bikes. Now it's still in Vietnam anyway. However, we ride within the law and always AGATT while riding out.

Thank you very much.
Well, that's quite far from Houston. If asking them to deliver the bike in Houston that would be costly...

Of course.
There are lots of big bikes in Thailand. They have some local tracks as well.
Cambodia is many too, but the riders there are not so serious. Laos is less than Cambodia anyway.
We have ridden from Vietnam thru Cambodia, Thailand and reach Malaysia for Sepang (MotoGP).

Still lurking for a bike in Houston....
