Drove through Death Valley in 125deg heat Summer '08. Always wanted to retrace that 2500mile road trip through the Soutwest on a motocycle... in fairer weather.

Racer,

I have been contemplating longer rides to actual destinations lately. The Guzzi is built for that kind of run and I found some Tourmaster bags that fit underseat. There is a Texas Guzzi meet coming up near Tyler early October, if I can get my first maintenance done, I may give it a go. A dream also is going camping on my bike.

Racer,

Interesting concept parking a bike inside. That is a concern of mine. Yes, I am working on stepping to a new level: getting outside the Harris/Ft. Bend County orbit.

Any advice on what to pack in my small bags?

Happiness is being more than a days ride from home.

Many years ago I packed a tent and sleeping bag on my bike, left the house and didnt come back for a year. Good times.

Mr. P,

Thanks....this looks interesting. Yes, this fall I hope to expand my riding skills and range. The small block Guzzi is a wonderful cruiser. It seems my hands remain the main physical challenge, hourly breaks help.

I've gone somewhere close to that route in a jeep: Vegas to CA coast to Yosemite.
