small car, reliable for under 2k? .. long shot man. even used car dealers sell em for at least 2900.. shoddy condition. I was offering the van because currently, I have 2 vans, 3 cars and 2 bikes and looking for an SUV lol. I'm running out of room hahah.

If you can at any possibility wait, and add to your flow before you make a move i would highly suggest it. Also, if you simply got $1500 more or so, you could take it to an auto auction and get you a decent ride, or have u looked into saturns?

$1500 won't buy her transportation. It'll buy an endless money pit. First break down is liable to cost her wayyy more than $1500.

Only way she'll come out ahead is buying from a reliable source with know history. Say somebody's grandma's Camry that she bought new 15yrs ago and put very little miles on it. Good luck.

Exactly! She has to spend at least 3K to get something half-way reliable and decent.

What about a small pickup? Prolly lots of miiles on it, but they are usually pretty bulletproof. Certainly not new and won't be pretty, but if its just wheels she needs...

That's not a bad idea, really. Especially if it's got the V6. Two biggest problems with old high mileage small 4-cyl FWD cars is (1) cam belt and (2) CV joints. Unless you can verify those two things have been serviced recently, they'll need to be checked and possibly worked on. Either would cost you hundreds of dollars.

A small V6 pickup has neither. Stay away from ones with the bed beat to shreds - sign of a work truck.

that tercel is not a bad car, as long as when you pop the hood its not a disaster underneath.

but that being said, all cars that you are potentially buying need to have a compression AND leak down test to give you a full idea of the condition and longevity of the engines current state. unless there are hellacious maintenance records kept.

Best place to look is a big local church's classifieds. Most of the churches have one. My buddy got a 95 Nissan Hardbody that was flawless with 59k miles on it for $500. Worth at least $4k. He then sold the camper it has on it for $200.

Little old ladies are selling off their "only driven on sunday" cars when their husbands pass away.

My best friend got a 94 ranger for $1 when his next door neighbor passed away b/c he always mowed her lawn free of charge during the summer.
