Was charged with "unsafe lane change." Video was presented to jury and the officer testified.

I then presented my defense. I explained how I had scored perfect scores at msf and presented my gremlin bell. I then presented factual evidence and statistics about the safety of lane splitting. I then presented the faq question that states lane splitting is not illegal.

I answered a few questions and then cross examined the officer. I had asked him if he rode a bike or had ever taken an msf course to which he replied no. I can't currently recall all of my questions but those were the big ones.

Jury found the defendant not guilty.

OK this may be a retarded question, but what difference did the gremlin bell make? I thought those were intended to scare away electrical and mechanical gremlins from your bike, I don't see how they would relevant to traffic and riding conditions.
That is, assuming one actually believes they do a thing to begin with, which I don't.

Right on!

I've always wanted to pull one off just to have the experience of a day in court and to cross examine the LEO that wrote me the ticket. Even if I lose, what da heck, it would've have been fun.

But... these days I just don't have to luxury of spending the time. Easier to get the ticket reduced, deferred and just pay them the money, which is really what they want anyway.

They give it to you when you get 100% on the written or riding part of the class, and then to everybody else once they give you your's first.

So I am guessing it was another way to show he did well in his class to the jury.

Maybe it was just our class that they gave bells to everyone because the AC was out and it was August and it was retarded hot in the class portion.

Yeah I never got them and I took the MSF course twice (first time was before the DMV would waive the riding test with proof of MSF). I always thought the gremlins were just some stupid chotzky that gypsies sell at biker events like a lucky rabbits foot.
I dunno, maybe they mix concrete as well.

Sometimes I do it, too, on the HOV. I try to make it obvious, though, that I'm wanting to go around. Most of the time the cars will pull over into the right shoulder and I can pass on the left.
