If its in good shape other than key, the. Go get a bonded title and then sell it for some good money. Some people like those. But it's going to have to be running and with a clean title.....

correct. He'll make more money parting it out.

If bike was completely put together, running, relatively rust free, decent tires, with key and had a title he could get around $1,000. So do the math on this one, bonded title alone will cost somebody near $200

Do the title first before you sink money into it. Take it from someone with experience, no sense dumping ANY cash into a bike until you have a valid title in hand. In an ideal world, you are certain you will get the bonded title and you shouldn't have to worry about it. Next year maybe the law changes ever so slightly and that simple process becomes a major headache and now you have no title for an expensive pile of metal. Vintage 'Wing buyers usually know what they want and won't want to clean up DMV problems, you'll have a difficult to impossible time trying to move it without the title in hand. You may find a rube, but again how long to you want to wait to recoup your money?

Can you contact the previous owner, and was the title in his name? If so, see if you can get him to file for a lost title. It's much cheaper than doing a bonded title, but can be a hassle to get someone who has no stake in the vehicle to do a favor for you.
