Brand of gear

What brands of gear (two or one piece) suit have you found to be the best quality, fit? Why? This can include gloves or boots. Don't care about helmets since I already have settled on what works best for me but its time to get new leather and it has been a long time since I bought new. Looking to buy on the Sw side of town.

I'll chime in with the little experience that I have. So far I have worn 3 different leather suits.

The first was an A* size 48, 1 piece - Rental leathers, boots had holes in them and it was raining all that day. The fit was actually spot on with me, and it was comfortable minus the wet feet.

2nd suit I've tried was an AGV 1 piece, size 50 - rental leathers, boots were fine. This suit was much larger on me than the A*, but it did the job and I wasn't un-comfortable at all.

3rd suit, I purchased. Dainese Laguna Seca Pro, size 60 2 piece - I actually wear size 58 comfortably, but this suit does not include a back protector. I went up one size so that I could add one. This so far is the best suit by a long shot, fit and quality wise. Glad I picked up my own suit.

There are many out there that say 2 piece is bad because they can come apart at the zipper...I figured since I'm fairly new to track riding and since I'm not to fast, this wouldn't be a big issue.

I hae thundrthighs. Nothing from an italian mark will fit over my legs. I wear a fieldsheer. Supposedly Joe Rocket also has more girthy legs.

Other than my track attire,

I have the Dainese Mugello STR jacket, some Pro Carbon gauntlets, and a pair of D-tec TRQ-RACE OUT boots.

Well worth it's weight in gold.

Why leather? Protection? Abrasion strength? Track days? All of the above?

I have just spent SEVERAL months digging through forum postings, manufacturer sites, etc. in order to make my choice.

This page of info is very interesting, and was key in my decision. Link <HERE>

Be sure and study the chart, toward the bottom, on tear strength and abrasion.

If you do go leather, you want "Full Grain" as opposed to "Top Grain" and at least 1.4mm thick, if best protection is what you are after.

Mostly street riding. Eventually I will get to the track. That just takes time which I have unfortunately been unable to get a lot of. However, I certainly appreciate having proper gear and protection. Lets just say I have field tested the old two piece suit and see the benefits of leather. But am open to other options.

Who on the southwest side Houston of town has good deals for gear? Any site sponsors?
