Question Labor day weekend ride trip to Austin..?

I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in riding to Austin this weekend. Sun-Mon. Just getting a feeler for now, will make an OFFICIAL thread once we come up with a game plan and route...

Basic plan is to ride to Austin via backroads Sunday afternoon, ride a few of the roads in Austin and call it a day. Stay the night at a hotel or available crash pad. Ride a longer twisty route around Austin Monday morning and come back to Houston Monday afternoon. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome as I've never ridden Austin roads...

I recently read that thread from a while back when Chris (solracer) and company did a ride like this and I thought I'd give it a go because it looked fun.

More so on the backroads than on the freeways. I grew up in the country... it is a fact of life.

I mean, if traffic will be an issue because of the Holiday weekend, we can re-plan this for a regular weekend Sat-Sun trip.

Instead, maybe a long ride can be planned for Labor Day...

The one posted is a good two day ride; or you can go up 1431 and stay in Marble Falls, then head down towards the 3 Sisters on Day 2 thru Fredericksburg and Kerrville, then tie into the return roads for day 3.

I'm down for a different weekend with more notice. Looks like a bad route. Hope the one this Saturday is pretty impressive.

Well, that's why this was a feeler thread. The more I think about it, it makes better sense to save the trip for another weekend, but most likely will be a Sat-Sun trip.

As late of a notice as this was, I think it's okay to hold off until a better time comes up. Personally, I would actually like to moto-tour Austin first and get a good feel for it, before I drag a couple of people out there....I like to be familiar with the territory.

HOWEVER, I would like to plan a LONG route backroads ride on Monday. It would start from the SE side, but people could still meet us along the way in Brookeshire or Waller. I'll have to start another thread for that.

Cool, let's do some motosplorin'

I think my first ride out there, we should do a small group, then decide whether it's worth it to go back, or if we're better off just going further and doing a 3 sisters trip. I guess the cool thing about an Austin trip is we can be hardcore and ride there. Just have to justify whether it's worth the trip or not, the 3 Sisters can spoil you ya know....

I do want to plan an Arkansas trip sometime too....it's only like 8-9 hrs away and I heard it's EPIC out there, good road surface, and very light traffic
