Do I need an attorney?

I got pulled over on the way to work today on my bike. The officer gave me a citation for 4 violations and 1 warning.

1. ? IMP DISP TXLP;
2. ? IMP DISP MVI CERT
3. Expired vehicle inspection 1/2006
4. Expired vehicle registration 12/2006

1. Failure to Signal L/C

Do I need to get an attorney? I can't afford to pay the fines, I don't even know what the fines are yet.

Most of them are "fix it" fines.
Put your plate and inspection sticker where they can be seen CLEARLY from the rear and illuminate them. That will take care of the first 2. Get your registration and inspection up to date. That will take care of the next 2. The last one you can take DSC on.
You're going to need ra eceipt for you registration and inspection and pics of before and after on your plate mod (making it legal).
A receipt for materials or for a shop doing it for you will help too.
If needed I can make you an invoice, but you will need pics as well.

I can't really afford to update my inspection and registration and I can't afford to put fix the license plate thing. I've been running into money problems and this doesn't make it any better.

3 choices that I see

1. borrow some cash and get your bike fixed and prolly get the fines dismissed
2. go to court without anything done and get screwed, and still have to get the bike fixed
3. pay a lawyer and, well, you still gotta get your bike fixed to avoid future problems and now you have to pay a lawyer and maybe still pay the court

Looks to me like you should take patrick's advice.

to fix all of the 4 things you listed is less than $100.00.
I advise borrowing some cash or doing some side chores to gain the extra cash and get it taken care of immediately. Those are piddily (sp?) violations, unless you don't get them taken care of before your court date.
