What was the first sport bike?

Kind of wondered about this. I've done some researching on google but I can't get a for sure answer. Some places say its the Honda CB750 and some others say something different.

Kawasaki Mach III 500 could blow away the CB 750....but the handling was horrid

None of these bikes qualify as "sport" by today's standards.

Opinions will vary as much as the true definition of what a "sportbike" is.

CB750 was a very significant milestone bike that heralded the Japanese domination from the '80s forward. It was fast for its day, but was designed as a general purpose machine - the UJM. It wasn't a sportbike any more than a Bonnevile was for its day.

1985 GSXR750 was the first "racing bike for the street". It is the formula that everybody else soon followed and later coined "supersport" or race replica. A bike that you can take off the headlights and turns signals, and go racing.

You can't really say what is the first of something, without a clear definition of what that something is.
What was the first airplane? Powered or unpowered? Carrying a man or drone?
What was the first washing machine? Hand crank or electric?

My vote is the Vincent Black Shadow.

'85 gsxr 750 is generally considered to be the first Ricky-racer street bike.

My first introduction to a sport bike was my KZ 650 Bored & storked , 1979 model.
Bought used in the early 80's.
Not a sport bike by today's standards though.
