Bike(s):
2012 YZF-R1 - (Race)
2009 GSXR 750 - (Race)
2007 GSXR 750 - (Race)
2003 CRF450 Motard (Race)
2005 CRF100 Motard (Race)

The cheap route:

Buy a 16" front wheel for a XR80 on ebay (This will bolt right on without any mods).
(Bridgestone makes some decent 16" tires, but you will have to go to 17" to get the good stuff)

The rear rim should already be 16", so you'll be good to go.

Safety wire & catch bottle and you're ready to race.

I think I had less that $250 in my sons bike (not including the cost of the bike).
I was winning F7 novice class races on this set up my first season.

These days, you will need more mods to win in this class..... But this will get you in the races and there are other bikes with simular set up that you can battle with.

Hope to see you there.

This is pretty much my exact route so I can get onto the track, Im really getting involved now so my son can start being brought up in the race atmosphere. He is really enjoying riding his PW and I think if he continues he will be on the track with me as soon as his age permits (he is 2 1/2 now).

Thanks guys, actually rode some wheelies on it this morning before work, its a great size play bike, and I look forward to crashing and learning on it. Its still needs some tuning it feels like its running a little lean and isnt idling, but I havent even got into the carb yet.

I will probably be ready to pull my wheels off after next race so if your interested, I'll have 16 front and rear with rubber for ya. I just gotta get all the parts I need for my future set up here and laced up.

I just picked up a KLX110 and a DR125 for the same reason. I'm taking them to the shop to get some tuneups done. Hopefully I'll have the tires I need in time for racing and will see yall out there, too.

16's front and rear on the xr is the best way to get started, its a fun ride and it can be quite competive!
