I on the other hand have dabbled in the black arts myself. I overhauled my 954 front end in December. It was an experience, but not one I would want to do all the time.
Here is my advice
Do not attempt this unless you have a manual and are able to securely and safely get the front end of your bike off the ground without supporting it by the forks (you will have to remove them) or the triple tree.
If this is your first time to overhaul a suspension set up, you will need to buy or make tools. I bought a spring compressor and made a fork seal tool.
Expect to not to be able to finish this on your first Saturday of working on them.
