98 GSXR 1100 problems

My battery died a few weeks ago and I thought it was an alternator, so i replaced it. Still not charging. I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone have any ideas? I've cleaned the connectors between the alternator and wiring harness, still nothing.

With bike running: What's ur stator out-putting? What's your R/R out-putting? What is battery voltage?

I thought bikes didnt have alternators :P I thought it was a stator/rectifier combo. hehe :P

Things to check for though, check your voltage, just because the item is working does not mean it is working correctly. Also a new battery does not mean a good battery either. Unfortunately electrical gremlins are hard to solve due to the fact that well everything other than the combustion after the spark relies on the power coming from the battery and its charging system/regulator.

Like Mx6er said find out what kind of voltages are being given from your stator and rectifier and go from there. something sounds like it isnt right.

btw here is some generic figures.

12volts from battery = battery is dead. Fully charged it should be around 13.5v
voltage coming from your charging system should be 13.5v+
battery voltage while at charge and with bike running should be around 13.7 and ive seen as high as 14.3(car albeit, but 12volt battery is a 12volt battery the loads/amps it can put out is the difference.)

Kevintx88, while the bike is running, if I take the negative battery cable off, it dies. Everything I've ever been taught says that is the alternator is not putting out enough to keep the motor running.
