I do from 400 to 900 miles each day touring depending on the sights along the way. You can see the small tank I carry in this picture. It can save the day.

My breakdowns:

Flat tire in Mexico that I patched on the side of the road

Worn wire that was blowing main fuse & I unhooked everything and rode across the border with no lights.

Cratered engine in Alaska and I sold the bike for next to nothing.

How do people run out of gas?!

Ok everyone,
I have posted this question on a total of three different motorcycle forums and attached is a table of my un-scientific results...

As you can see the top four are
  1. Running out of gas
  2. Electrical (Blown Fuse, faulty wire, loose terminal)
  3. Flat Tire
  4. Coolant leak (Hose leak or Radiator damage due to rock)
