Matt Marcontell, who was friends with Choate, said that a woman showed up at his door shortly after the incident and wanted to charge her cellphone. He said the woman told him that her name was Shannon.

"As we were chatting, she said she was involved in an accident and fled in fear of police," Marcontell said. "The whole time we were talking, I had no idea she was the driver who killed my friend. She had no idea I knew him."

The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Garcia in a hotel in Gainesville, Texas around 4:00 p.m. Monday.

Yes I read the article in the Chronicle this morning. The Gold Wing rider was not wearing his helmet, and was out early morning with the drunks. He left behind a wife and two small children.

The drunk lady did a hit and run, but her passenger (also drunk) stayed at the scene and described what happened. She had four margaritas, then got in to drive. Personally I believe there should be a death penalty for these events, or at least mandatory life in prison.

Hence is why I do not ride anymore late at night. Sad story. My heart goes out to the survivors, and I hope the runner gets due justice, and worse. No sympathy, or empathy from me....

They need to publicly hang the . A friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver that ran a stop sign. they hauled and left him for dead. Luckily someone got a partial plate and they found the in the emergency room getting his face stitched up. he denied the accident. the reason he needed stictches was when my friends nextel phone went through the winshield and struck him in the face. the police found my friends phone in the floorboard of the drunks car. arrested and charged. then later beaten within an inch of his life. friend survived. karma is a .

Is it just me or do people seem more likely to run when they hit a rider as opposed to a car?

Not the case. We just pay more attention to the bike accidents. It happens all the time.

Yes. I think so. Once a bike gets hit, more than likely it won't be able to run again so perhaps that's the first thing that comes to their minds??

Meh - "its just a bike"...is a common attitude.

It is as if they really don't think of it the same way as a car...

Very sorry to read this, my thoughts go out to his family.

If anyone comes across more information about the injuries that led to his death, and the status of the assailant, post them please. The picture of his bike and the car look disturbingly mild, he really had bad luck.

Nevermind, I found it: http://www.chron.com/news/houston-te...ck-3784332.php

No helmet, an accident that he could have easily walked away from. People, wear your helmet, please!

Is it just me or should be boyfriend be partially responsible? What kind of culpability is involved when you have too much to drink and get in the car with another drunk?

None that I know of, especially since its a stretch to assume she'll be charged with any intoxicated-related charge since he's the only one saying she had anything to drink. There's no breathalyzer or blood sample to use for evidence.
