Anybody know anything about CX500's?

A friend of mine scored this running 1980 Honda CX500 for $100(with title). He plans on making a cafe racer out of it. Anybody have any info or tips on them?

I'll assume you want honest, informed opinions.

They are heavy pigs with a dog of a motor, cheap budget suspension and crappy brakes.
Other than that I'm sure they are fine bikes and have few mechanical issues.

Here is an interesting thread. Especially if you want to spend too much money, too much time and end up with a mediocre out dated dual sport.
