Put it in a higher gear so that it won't 'take off' on her. Ride your bicycle next to her while she learns ... that way you won't get impatient.

taught my wife to ride a 99cbr f4

she probably would not allow me to do it, but if we were all together she could show her some things....plus mine needs to get more practice for her driving test.

I figured that one out the hard way.

First time my 8 year old got on the XR70 she tried hitting the front brake but twisted the throttle at the same time. I tried to hit the kill switch (while running beside her) - she jumped off the bike, I landed in the grass with a bike on top of me.

She only rides it in 3rd gear now.

The 9th grade school by my house has a huge parking lot. That is usually where I take the kids.

You teach and I will be your back up.

Charles, first thing I usely have them try is something similar to the MSF class. Have her walk the bike around just using the clutch... no hand on the gas so she don't wheelie it. This will help her get a feel for using the clutch. Don't let her use the brake either at first. Just feel the clutch. let it out a little to get it moving then pull it back in to feel the engine brake a little for you. Then have her do the same but use the front brake to help it stop. This whole time you are staying away from the throttle. Once she masters that have her easy into the throttle and pick her feet up staying in first and then coast for a ways and use the brake to stop. Then get into the teaching of switching gears and using both brakes, etc....
