park my bike in a contract parking garage

So I just started a new job that have a parking garage with visitors & contract parking separated. To access the contract parking, you need a card. I want to ride my bike to work but I'm not sure if it's safe to park there without any lock. What y'all think?

and don't ask me where it is. like I'm going to put it up here....LOL

Ask the guy who got his CBR1K stolen out of the contract HOSPITAL parking.
Check the Stolen Reports subsection here too.

No where is totally safe unless it's behind a locked door unfortunately.

My brother had a bike stolen from the parking garage at Houston House which only allowed access with a card.

Even then a bike isn't safe. We've all seen threads where the theif broke into a locked garage to steal a bike.

OP, if you have an insurance policy that covers theft you're about as safe as you can get.

you caint really enjoy something unless you can walk away from it. And not worry that in five minutes it will be gone when you get back. Buy insurance get full coverage and learn to relax you don't have to watch your bike every five minutes in order to be able to enjoy it. You can also buy LoJack. If someone really likes your bike and they really want to steal it they will follow you home and it doesn't matter what type of security measures you have in place they will take it, that's what professional thieves do.

Scope the garage for a spot with a column or pole where you can leave a cable/chain and lock, and park there daily with your ride locked up. I have a master lock cable that has a handcuff on one end that I always used when I rode a supermoto all over town. I see bikes in my garage daily...

Every once in a while I visit my dad in the galleria and I park in a contract/visitor parking garage. This one in particular has a few security guards that drive golf carts, cameras, and a tenant that makes you pay before you leave. But with all that being said, I've heard of bikes being stolen from similar locations. I have theft insurance but I'm still nervous leaving my bike there.

A disc lock is nice... but if you can lock it TO something, that's better.

Many thefts are the bikes being picked up and thrown into a van/truck. Disc lock doesn't do much for that.

But yeah, everyone pretty much has it covered.

You have to ask yourself two questions.
1-do other people park bikes there? if so good chance you will be ok
2-if your bike does get stolen are you covered?
I have parked my bike in several places without a problem, but then again no one probably wants my bike.

If you must park it there get a big thick chain. Run the chain through the rear swing ARM. When wrapping or locking the chain be sure it is elevated.

If someone wants it bad enough it will be gone.

Good luck. We will keep an eye out for you in the stolen bike subforum.

Ive seen a rider put on an alarm and a bike cover for extra deterrence.
I actually like the bike cover idea.

I wouldn't worry about it. Bike theft really only happens in other cities. Pretty safe around here.
