Actually edited my post. I mis-read your first post. Thought you were referring to the NR500 as a 2-stroke. Read the statement "2 smoke killer" too fast and mis-interpreted it... :BangHead:
PS- Next time leave out the "sparky" references. Belittling comments like that are not neccessary...

with almost double the displacement. give the 2 strokes that same displacement and it would kill those four strokes.

You know, I saw an article that the '07 R1 has a 5 valve Genesis engine? I didn't know they still used it:

"Genesis is an engine design by the Yamaha Motor Corporation that debuted in the 1984 Yamaha FZ750.

The engine employs a DOHC design and uses five valves per cylinder with the cylinder group slant forwards 45 degrees. It used downdraft carburetors instead of the side draft carburetors more common at that time.

More than twenty years later, the Yamaha YZF-R1 still uses a 5-valve head and downdraft intake design"
07 r1 has 4 valves per cylinder.

I wonder what a 990 or even 800cc two-stroke gp engine could do...
honda is what killed the 2 stroke the ydidn't want to do 2 strokes only four strokes. the 2 strokes were making 190 hp with 500cc diplacment. imagine what they could do with 750 800 or 990. I'm sure we would be talking like almost 280 to 300 hp.

Yes, but you cannot compare 2 strokes to 4 strokes in the department of displacement. 2-strokes make power everythim around so 1/2 as much displacement on a 2 stroke equals that of a 4 stroke...

of course you can compare. flat out 2 strokes are better and make more power than 4 strokes period.

yes sir. also I'll take a diesel engine over a gasoline engine any day as well. gasoline engines are terribly inefficient.

they only make more power at twice the RPM (and in turn, twice the wear), and make half the torque at twice the RPM. a 4 stroke is a much more balanced engine.
