Ride next Sunday 8/12 National Forest

I'll be heading up to Sam Houston National Forest next weekend. Anyone one want to go? It will be my first time riding there. I plan on getting there early.

I might be. Just blew a fork seal on my bike Thursday but if I don't fix it before then I could always ride the KDX. Getting there early (~7:30am) is a good idea, it gets very hot riding in the forest. Bring a camelback and fill it up each return to the trailhead. Do you have a OHV sticker already? Mandatory for riding the trails there.

OHV sticker link

I want to get up there (First time as well), but will probably wait til after the 1st. This year's stickers are only good until the end of the month, right?

Correct but next years ('13) stickers are already available for purchase and effective now. Buy now and you'll get an extra months use from it.

Sounds good, do you want to meet up?

No I don't have a sticker. I was under the impression you just "pay to enter."
Where do I get it? I always ride with a camelback and some basic tools. I've been riding to long to do otherwise.

7:30 sounds good. What entrance is the best for getting to the trails?

edit: I didn't see the link the first time I looked.

Besides OHV sticker you also must pay $5 per day fee at the trailhead. Or you can buy an annual pass for $25 at the Ranger Station but its not open on Sunday.

East Side Trailhead is the closest and open, some of the other trailheads are still closed. Couple miles past the Ranger Station on FM1375.
Take 45 North, exit FM1375 at new Waverly, turn left and go 3-4 miles, turn right at sign for Multi-Use Trailhead. Also a bigger sign there "Gulf Coast Trades Center".

Correct. Starting early before the temps rise really makes riding more enjoyable and you can get a much longer ride in.

I'll be there. It sounds easy to find.

Washing my gear now. I'll pick up the OHV pass this weak.

I may go if I can get my rear brake working.

Rear brakes aren't necessary. They only slow you down!

Sticker only needed for the bike. Bring the extra one on Sunday and I'll buy it from you if nobody else needs it to ride that day.
